Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

This leads me to believe that the new 7er will be sportiest 7er ever! And also, you told us about 2 versions SWB and LWB, could this be for SWB to make it more sport orientated and to compete with S8 and AMG models and LWB to concentrate only on luxury and stuff?

:t-cheers:

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

Okey, risk for being an idiot here, does the engine look like a Boxer ala subaru or what?

I've heard rumors. But did not believe them. I was told F01 will be revolutionary in drivetrain department ... Yet I thought it was all about the gearbox ... But now I see it's the engine.

This news will be HUGE!!! :icondrool
C'mon Eni, stop being so coy.

How many cylinders? Capacity? Hybrid technology? I haven't been this inquisitive in years. Arrggh! The madness!

It seems too that thus far we're the only people discussing this at this level; nothing on CSS, nothing on Pistonheads... no blogs anywhere...

Start the discussions there.

When the 100% right answer comes I'll nod. But I ain't tell anything!

:eusa_sile

Also mind what I heard are rumors (internal) only, so I can't be 100% sure this is it. Will try to find out more. To know when to nod ... :D

What the hell???

This is some seriously exiting sh!t Eni, you know know things!! :D :D :D

I have never seen such an engine in a BMW....it looks....uhm...I don't know actually. Martin has to help me out here!!!

You know Just_me, I'm afraid that I might be overhyping this but that kind of layout in an engine bay is just about as familiar as I've ever seen in my extensive experience with front-mounted Boxer engines. So yes, in my opinion this engine more closely resembles a Boxer engine a la Subaru than anything else I've ever seen before.

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

interesting.. very interesting..
hmm--- but i hope there is something to it..and not just a camo job or something to throw us off..

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

Pardon my ingorance, but why isn't that just a N64B (V8 Turbo) with some efficient dynamics components? :t-hands:

Best regards, south

I was thinking the same thing, but it looks much weirder than that imo.
But who knows, not me.

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

I don't know that much about engines layout, but that hardly looks like a V configuration imo...:t-hands: Of course i might be dead wrong about it, but that's just the 1st impression...:t-hands:

No, you are right, but mind that we are seeing some additional parts here, not seen on your regular V8. Those pipes and tubes could be for the turbos, while the actual engine itself is slightly below everything we are seeing.
The plastic engine covers are missing too, so that makes it look weird as well.

But I am no expert, so...

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

You're right too, it could be anything, it's too early to say, only some real expert or an engineer (think vabboud) could tell us more...

Anyways, Boxer or a V8, single or twin turbo, it'll be very interesting...:usa7uh:

Not ignorance in the slightest south. I agree that maybe we're seeing an uncovered conventional engine for BMW but the fact remains that this has to be one that is completely unrecognisable when viewed against any of BMW's current engines.

The odd plumbing; the absence of any cam-covers, cylinder heads, engine block; the transversly aligned injection / inlet systems - all of this is distinctly different from any of BMW's current engine bays. If it is a conventional in-line 6 or V8 then why does it look so darned unfamiliar?

Could be, south, but i think Martin knows his stuff...;)

I've told you...:D

I'd like to see this engine without all of its plastic covers in place. Still, I'd bet you'd be able to see the cam-covers and some of the engine block...

Hmmm, this one already looks a lot like that spy pic one....

Edit, after comparing, I do see some major differences though:

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

Ok, but what are the benefits of testing the engine without all those plastic covers and stuff that Martin talks about?
