Not sold that those are X7 test mules. First of all, how can a spy photographer really know for sure?

Those G12 prototypes with added weights on the roof & hood miss something essential to make them X7-mules: higher ground clearance / riding height. That's not an SAV chassis - it's sitting way to low. It's a regular sedan chassis. What I think it's going on here is they are doing some suspension & driving systems tests under higher load: either for armored G12 (most likely) or perhaps even for the X7 chassis. But this hardly males those G12 prototypes X7-mules.

When eg. BMW tested F25 X3 they used E91 3er Tourings as mules - with evidently higher ground clearance / riding height & both the tracks were also wider (resulting in more bulged wheel arches on mule cars).

Same case with E84 X1 - when also E91 3er Tourings were used as mules: this time also with elevated riding height (although not as high as in X3 case) and the mules were wearing heavily camouflaged X1 front.

Those ARE real mules. The G12 7er prototype with added load isn't!

I've never met the guy (though I would really love to), but I understand his concerns for the future of our favourite brand.

I have the feeling my posting grew misunderstood. It was no critic or an offense. It was referred only to your similar sense of humor. Sorry. :(

wow, it's official.

X7 and RR SUV. The Champions League of the SUV world is about to be launched.

Don't worry, I didn't misunderstand you. I tried to sound the same with my reply, but I obviously failed. :D

I should have added a smiley, which as it seems enhances my english capabilities. :D

I think the Champions League of the SUV started when Bentley said they'll produce that ugly car-like thingy, but with BMW stepping into the game, things are going to get serious.

After all, BMW has proven as the levels of attention and dedication that they can give to not-core-models, that we don't really care about, leaving us with hopes for a better interior for the 3er, which [hopes] are, of course, just dreams.

klier mate, we are doomed.

We are indeed, my friend. We are indeed. But not because of the 3er interior. That's just fine ;)

And you can't play a game on your own Gian, so with all these high end SUV cars coming, the competition can start off :D

BMW X7 rumored to start from €130,000; will be offered with V12 engine
Due late 2017 / early 2018

Spanish media has managed to obtain new details about the BMW X7 expected to come out in late 2017 or early 2018.

According to Motor.es, BMW started development of the X7 and Rolls-Royce SUV almost two years ago and the cars will share many of the components. The X7 is codenamed "G07" and will reportedly ride on the HPLC (or CLAR) architecture previously known as "35up" which will make its debut in a few months with the next generation 7-Series.

The suspension and some of the other bits and pieces will be sourced from the X5 while both rear-wheel drive and xDrive AWD systems are going to be offered. The engine lineup will encompass six- and eight-cylinder units as well as a plug-in hybrid derivative which will likely be an adaptation of the system installed in the X5 xDrive40e. On top of the range is going to be a large V12 motor which will probably be an upgraded version of the 6.0-liter unit inside the outgoing 760i where it churns 544 HP (400 kW) and 750 Nm (554 lb-ft) of torque.

As far as the interior is concerned, the seven-seater is believed to provide the most luxurious cabin ever seen in a BMW and is set to be even more posh than the new 7-Series.

BMW has already announced the X7 range-topping SAV will be assembled at their Spartanburg factory in South Carolina, United States where they plan on investing $1 billion until late 2016 to boost capacity and also get everything ready for the new model. The X7 will reportedly kick off from €130,000 and will be built at an annual production rate of 45,000 cars.

Will be the Concept a Concept close to the production car like M4 Concept for example or will it be like the VFL and shows the design direction of future SUV in general with design parts of the X7?

I said there would be a Vision of the X7 at Shanghai in April, several months ago. Can I work for BMW Creative MarketingTM?

This is a great question. Personally, I hope it's like the VFL because if it were a vision like the M4 the car would be ready for a facelift when launched in a small 3 (!!) years.

Referred to the time between release of the Concept (April?) and release of the production car is more probably that the Concept will be a Concept like the VFL. So you could be right, klier.
As far as I know Betty has wrote a time ago that Concepts like M4 Concept will shown short time before production starts. And we are far away of this date.
