We are still around 2 and a half years from market launch

We have already seen the X7 prototypes pics from winter tests in Sweden, so ... Not the same vehicle. This is most obviously the X3 prototype.

I can be wrong but I think we haven't seen yet any prototype of X7. We've seen the "Frankenstein" mule, but only one mule. At least, any magazine has edited spy shots of prototypes from X7.

BMW says the X7 SUV won’t arrive before 2019

Ludwig Willisch, CEO of BMW of North America, says the company’s largest SUV to date – the X7 – won’t arrive before 2019. Previous reports put the X7 SUV in dealer showrooms in 2018. A concept version of it is likely to be introduced in advance.

BMW and Rolls Royce have been working on two SUVs for two years. In 2013, when world plunged into a major economic crisis, BMW felt it was not the time to announce the production of both models, but they were being developed, trying on different systems, running on various engines and materials were assessed for chassis and bodies. The X7 even received the internal codename F17.

Today, the BMW X7 is known as G07.

The BMW X7 will feature the suspension and running gear of the new X5 and X6, although the flagship X could also sell a version with rear-wheel drive as well as intelligent xDrive. The range of engines will vary from TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder and V8 gasoline and diesel, to a plug-in hybrid version. The top model will be a V12, which will mean being the first production model of the X range with an engine of this type.

Inside, the BMW X7 will be the most luxurious model of the brand, even more than a 7 Series, the same level as the reference model and main rival: the Range Rover, and with room for seven passengers and a large volume boot.

BMW plans an average annual production of 45,000 units. The base version will cost around 130,000 euros.

2019 BMW X7 teased during annual press conference

The 2017 BMW X7 is hiding under a cover in an image sourced from a document related the company’s annual press conference.

Because of the semi-transparent cover, it’s a bit tricky to point out at this moment any specific details that would make the X7 stand out from the X range in terms of design. We do know it will be substantially larger than the X5 and as a result will offer more room inside the cabin for those sitting on the rearmost seats.

Codenamed “F17”, the three-row SUV will sit on top of the X lineup and will ride on the same CLAR platform that has underpinned the latest 7 Series. It will likely inherit the engines from BMW’s flagship sedan, all the way up to the V12 which will make its debut on an X model. As a side note, the 2000 X5 Le Mans did indeed sport a 700-hp V12 engine, but that was only a one-off.

As far as the interior is concerned, it’s expected to be even more luxurious than what the latest 7 Series has. Moreover, the X7 will reportedly gain an ultra-luxurious variant later during the model’s life cycle that will lose the third row of seats. It will be turned into a four-seater with plenty of room for the rear passengers sitting on individual seats featuring ventilation, heating, and massaging functions. There’s also going to be a rear-seat entertainment system and a full-length center console to further differentiate it from the seven-seat X7.

BMW’s cream of the crop SAV will be assembled in South Carolina, United States at the Spartanburg factory. It won’t come out in the foreseeable future, since BMW North America CEO Ludwig Willisch said it’s not due before 2019. That being said, we could see some sort of a preview concept in 2017 or 2018 to ease the waiting process.

Reports are indicating the Bavarians want to sell around 45,000 units every year and the cheapest version will begin at €130,000, probably in Germany. If that turns out to be true, the X7 will be way more expensive than a base 7 Series which in its domestic market kicks off at €82,600.

In this section do not believe.
I thought that comes earlier.

^ It all depends on the base engine. If the base engine in the X7 is going to be a big V8 instead of a 'small' diesel like the G11, it's a bit more logical. Still, a 50k price gap is pretty huge indeed.

Also, some name it F17, and some call it G07. I am going with the G code.

BMW just gave us a tease of the upcoming X7 SUV, which will be BMW’s flagship SUV once it makes its debut. The X7 will slot above the X5 and X6, competing with the Mercedes-Benz GLS Class and Range Rover. It’s a wise decision for BMW to get into that segment and it’s actually a surprise that it took this long.

The full-sized luxury SUV segment simply dominates the luxury market, at least in America. Range Rovers, big Benzes and Cadillac Escalades are some of the most popular luxury vehicles in America, so it only makes sense that BMW would want in on some of the action. It was only a matter of time and we’re wondering what took BMW so long.

BMW X7 Teaser

But with a new X7 coming to BMW’s lineup, being that it’s an entirely new model in a segment that BMW has yet to compete in, what do you want to see from the BMW X7?

It’s likely that the BMW X7 has the Range Rover squarely in its sights, so look for extreme levels of luxury, equivalent to the BMW 7 Series. The X7 could have all of the same luxury and technology as the 7 Series and maybe even more. The X7 has the opportunity to be even more luxurious, thanks to its added size and interior room. There’s even a possibility of an extra luxurious model, akin to the BMW M760Li V12 Excellence, to compete with the Range Rover Autobiography.

But hopefully, the BMW X7 won’t just be a bigger fancier BMW X5 and is something completely different, maybe even with some genuine off-road tech. One of the Range Rover’s biggest upsides is that it can off-road with some of the best SUVs in the world, despite being incredibly luxurious on the inside. So it’s a great blend of both worlds. It would be nice if BMW could give the X7 some better off-road capability, possibly a locking differential, so it can be that fantastic all-rounder. That’s doubtful, though.

BMW X7 Rendering

In terms of powertrains, the 3.0 twin-turbo I6 from the 740i is likely to be the standard engine with the 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 from the 750i being the top-end engine, much like the 7 Series. A plug-in hybrid variant is probable and maybe even a variant with the 6.6 liter twin-turbo V12 from the M760Li is possible. But don’t expect to see a 2.0 liter diesel in the X7, it’s going to marketed far too high for something like that.

We’re very excited to see what the BMW X7 will become and have very high expectations for it. The current crop of BMW SUVs are very impressive and we don’t expect anything different from the X7. Hopefully, it has some more off-road capability than the other SUVs its related to, so it can compete at least loosely with the Range Rover, and hopefully there are some big engine options, like the V12. We’d also like to see even higher levels of luxury than the 7 Series has, with some more impressive tech. Those are the things we’re looking for in the X7, what do you want to see from it?
