M3/M4 BMW M3 Spy pics 400hp V8!

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

I just want to say how wrong this is. As is, the the old GT3 and the new Carrera S already hold their own in a straight line (since comparing handling would be a David and Goliath affair). I'd bet the new GT3 will be faster than the M6 and not get smoked.

FYI the GT3 996 body style is not only slower than the M6 in strait line but also around many tracks. (including Stig laptimes on Top Gear). Even though on other tracks the GT3 is faster. Just pointing out how wrong you are :t-crazy2:

Stats seem to vary on the GT3 as how fast it can accelerate. Weird thing was that the run with the faster 0-60 time had the slower 0-100 time. I guess it comes down to how much you abuse the car as revving the engine and dropping the clutch to get the fastest possible launch isn't exactly good for it. Here's a quote from one of the better runs: "Porsche claims the GT3 will run 0 to 60 in 4.2 seconds. We're here to tell you that's just so much braunschweiger: Try 3.9, barely slower than the almighty all-wheel-drive Turbo. The GT3 storms ahead to a 12.07-second quarter mile at 116.04 mph." I never said the old GT3 was faster than the M6, I just said it could hold its own and not get its ass handed to it. I don't know the acceleration figures for the M6; what are they?

What tracks is the M6 faster at? I think the GT3 is faster at Hockenheim and the N-ring, but at a track like Monza or something the M6 is probably quicker. As entertaining as Top Gear is, I don't really take their stig tests as automotive gospel.

Well, when BMW FINALLY decides to go with ceramic brakes too, the 997 S will be nowhere to be seen when racing an M6 on the track, trust me.
While I'm sure that ceramic brakes will make a difference in performance, i doubt it will be enough to put the M6 in front of the GT3. Put some super sticky tires on the car, and watch the lap times fall.

Agreed, though i will say this ceramic brake thing has been a big thing for Porsche, perhaps it does have some sort of an effect. im just not that familiar with it, to go in depth.

So what's latest news about power of the engine ?

420hp, CSL gets another 25hp. Latest speculative info.

On another note, I've read in qutie a few places that the exhuast note of the new M3 sounds pretty aggressive. Hopefully it's as strong as that of the V8 Vantage.

Sure, but it would only be fair to put the same kind of soft tire on the M6 if you're going to race on a track.

If the M3 or M6 beats the GT3 around a track there is allways the GT3 RS which is the true 911 track car.

Im sure the RS would win, that car is just as fast as that light weight 360..

...and there will be a new M3 CSL too, which is a true track car!

like i said in the other thread.. it even looks agressive in camo.. cant wait to see it:D

Looks great, but the front looks different to the current 3er!

It looks to have 5er kidney grills, is that how it's going to be in the end!

it has different headlights? looks great even with that camo on.

I noticed the same thing, along with different kidney grills. So this is what I'm thinking; M models are going to become more differentiated from standard models. Look at the M6, the molding around the front lights is completely different, so perhaps this is just the next step in a new M philosophy of design. I guess the wolf in sheep's clothing theme is no more, which I'm not sure is a good thing. I kind of liked how older M cars weren't so easily recognizable. However, if you look at the e46 M3, it screams performance, as does the M5 and M6. After spending a long period of time with the new M5, I kind of like it's almost over the top look. It makes the car look and feel (the interior is a work of art) as special as it drives. I just don't want M cars to start having huge amounts of extra/tacky visual aids, like the useless M gills on the new M5.

Something is a little off. Look at the grille, it does not have the chromed bits above the grille like the E90 does, nor is there a space where they would go if they have simply been omitted. Either that or BMW's camo people are excellent at what they do.

I'm guessing the M3 sedan will have the same front as the coupé, making the M cars more simular and recognizable

I think the OTT styling is a reflection of the time we live in - especially in the UK and US - where everyone who has money wants to flaunt it (see rappers

PG - I agree with you on the most part. However - having said that E30 M3 wasn't exactly subtle was it...

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
