M2 BMW M2 [official thread]

The BMW M2 is a high-performance version of the BMW 2 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. As the 2 Series replaced the 1 Series coupé and convertible models, the first-generation M2 was marketed as the most basic M model in the range. Official website: BMW M

Any more info on the CS? Back up what the press have been saying this week (CAR UK mag especially)?

This is going to be so awesome! Hope it will feature the OLED rear light tech!

New photos of the BMW M2 with M Performance Parts

Perhaps the most legitimate spiritual successor to the "bubble-flared" 2002s' of the late 1960s'/early 1970s'.

And next to the M4 ZCP, my favorite current BMW.

BMW M2 CS and M2 GTS: Production / order dates, engine specs, and more info

APRIL 2017: some interesting info surfaced in the M2 section of the German forum '2erTalk' (sources: here, here and here):

January 2018: M2 CS ordering process starts
March 2018: M2 CS goes into production | S55 engine | 410 hp | no limited edition
March 2019: M2 GTS goes into production | S55 engine | 450 hp | limited edition/production (the '999' figure has been heard, but could change)

Time will tell if the above information is accurate. Interesting, to say the least. First time that I read that the M2 GTS is definitely scheduled. I thought it was just some pipe dream. But actually, this could make sense if you consider BMW M special models history: a limited edition M2 GTS as the final curtain call for the first-generation M2 (end of production: 2020).

Below: screenshot shows that the M2 CS is scheduled to go into production in March 2018 at the BMW Leipzig factory (source: here)
(note 1: "F87CS" is mentioned, rather than "F87COMP" or "F87COMPETITION"; note 2: where is the F87 M2 LCI ?!):

M2 CS UPDATE #1 (AUGUST 2017): forum fellow ynguldyn kindly shared in a few comments in a dedicated M2 CS thread some of his collected M2 CS info, which we could summarize and detail as follows:

Body colors (source: source):

base M2 body colors: Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic, Mineral Gray Metallic and Long Beach Blue Metallic
M2 CS body colors: Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic, Long Beach Blue Metallic, Sunset Orange (added color) and Hockenheim Silver (added all-new BMW color) (thus no Mineral Grey Metallic available for the M2 CS)

Interior (source 1 and source 2):

base M2 interior: black Dakota leather (LCNL) with Polar Blue stitching only - regular leather only
base M2 CS: black Dakota leather (LCNL) with choice between Polar Blue stitching and Orange stitching (Kyalami Orange like the 1M ?) - choice between regular leather and perforated leather

Gearbox (source 1 and source 2):

base M2: choice between M-DCT and manual gearbox
M2 CS: despite initial unfortunate signs of M-DCT only (see here), not all hope has flown yet for the availability of a manual gearbox M2 CS (for the record: last Winter an M2 test mule with carbon fiber strut brace à la M3/M4 and manual gearbox has been spotted at BMW M HQ: see here)

"M2 Competition" and "M2 CS" (versus "Competition Package" and "M Performance Package") (source):

"M2 Competition" and "M2 CS" are two different names for the same car; BMW used both names in the past; also "F87CS" = M2 CS
to be distinguished from "Competition Package" (ZCP): normally merely indicated as an option (hence "package") in the BMW system ("Comp pack doesn't get its own 'Typschlüssel' and a line in that file. 'Typschlüssel' is assigned based only on vehicle model, LCI status, engine model and revision, transmission model and revision, and drive type. Comp pack, on the other hand, is simply a couple of lines in the options list."); by the way, no trace of any M2 ZCP in the works, if any, as we speak
also to be distinguished from "M Performance Package": base M2 with an M Performance Parts package (for example 50 on offer in the Canadian market from September until December 2017: see here).

M2 CS UPDATE #2 (AUGUST 2017): some interesting VIN info excerpt leaked of an M2 CS ("M2 Competition") - USA model (see here).

The few leaked specs indicate an S55 3.0 litre engine with a 302 kW power output. The test mule was built in the BMW Leipzig factory (same production facility of the base M2), has the all-new Hockenheim Silver body color (BMW paint code C33) and features perforated black Dakota leather seats with blue stitching.

This confirms the earlier info that the M2 CS gets indeed the S55 engine sporting approx. 410 hp (metric) (302 kW = 410.6 hp (metric) = 405 hp (mechanic)). Thus a 40 hp (metric) power bump compared to the base M2, albeit with a different engine (the S55 instead of the N55).

Some easy tuning and this car will easily reach 450 hp with the S55.Huge potential behind this baby M...Probably the best ever done..

BMW M Boss Confirms The Return Of CSL Models

BMW-M2-Spy-Photo-3.webp

Rumors about a new BMW CSL model have been swirling for years but BMW M boss Frank Van Meel has finally confirmed it is happening.
Road&Track, Van Meel said the Coupe Sport Light moniker will replace the GTS name which was recently used on the M4 GTS. The executive added the moniker will be used on models "made on the track for the track" and serve as the company's "top-of-the-line track tool."

Beneath the CSL, will sit Coupe Sport (CS) models which are "also a track tool but with four seats" and a greater emphasis on comfort. CS models will continue to be positioned above the usual M and M Competition Pack vehicles.

Van Meel couldn't be drawn into discussing which vehicles would receive the CSL treatment but he confirmed there will never be an X5 M version. Despite seemingly ruling out crossovers, Van Meel seemed open to CSL sedans and this could eventually pave the way for CSL versions of the M3 and M5.

The CSL designation could return relatively soon on a high-performance version of the M2 Coupe but nothing is official as of yet.

Further confirmation they have been testing with an M3/M4 seat. They did with 1M and that never made production.

However evidence on other sites seems to suggest they made it to the M2 Competition this time round (for a price!).

Isn't this car just the Competition with optional extras?

Have registered my interest with a couple of dealers. They don't know much yet. Seems very quiet for new info at the moment.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
