M2 BMW M2 [official thread]

The BMW M2 is a high-performance version of the BMW 2 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. As the 2 Series replaced the 1 Series coupé and convertible models, the first-generation M2 was marketed as the most basic M model in the range. Official website: BMW M
I lusted after the 1M. This is not different.
I want to see Motor Trend's take on this car. Give it to Randy Pobst and see what happens. Or give it to me :D

So no side mirrors from the M3/4, why is that? Also no carbon fiber roof too? @Betty Swollocks what do you have to consider before placing your order?

those M4 mirrors probably need reworking to fit and are expensive. Also, carbon roof is very very expensive and not really feasible unless designed from the outset.

Stunning car. Wishlist: M side mirrors, carbon fibre roof, wheel arches look ala 1M. But this is the car in this segment to have, for sure!

Wow I want 1 so bad, awesome looking compact sports coupe, the front airdam and fender flares look so mean, and I like the similarity to the M4 cause that is a great looking car as well. For sure would take one over a RS3 and A45AMG love the idea of a tail happy RWD six cylinder compact coupe and it looks so aggressive as well. Spiritual successor to the fabulous E46 M3.

This is the best looking M car in the current line up of already good looking cars! Man it is a car to lust after!:t-woohoo::t-drive:

From what I see, this car is quite heavy but with an huge potential..
To cut weight from wheels (OZ?), exhaust (Akrapovic?),and light seatings (Sparco-Recaro or what you prefer) should be quite easy and to arrive close to 1450 kg (MT) adding an extra 30-40 hp seems possible to me.
I would then add the Sport Cup 2 on this lighter version and then I would like to see her dancing on the race track togheter with a standard M4 (weighting probably 140 kg more in the manual version). In other words tuners before and Bmw later with the rumored M2 CSL, could really make a good job with this car...Soon or later.

Edit: can anyone confirm that the 1495 kg declared for the manual M2 version include the 90% of fuel?

Yes for sure we have a more powerful A45AMG (280kw), RS3 and now this monster to go head to head on track and road

So no side mirrors from the M3/4, why is that?

Not easy to simply transfer them from the M3/M4, unlike the 1M, apparently.

Also no carbon fiber roof too?

Keeping costs down.

@Betty Swollocks what do you have to consider before placing your order?

How it impacts on a future purchase of the M4 LCI. I want an M4 at some point. Taking an M2 next spring will delay that purchase. The question is, by how long?

Also, I want some kind of indication that the numbers really will be limited to 400 in the UK. If so, then I think it will be possible to get in and out of an M2 without losing my shirt. Certainly if the 1M is anything to go by. 400 units will mean each dealer in the UK will only get one or two examples.

Edit: can anyone confirm that the 1495 kg declared for the manual M2 version include the 90% of fuel?

1,495kg is including 90% fuel but without 75kg for the driver.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
