Scott did originally hint at a GTS/CSL inspired version sometime ago however I wonder if that too has been shelved due to project costs?

AnyhowI sure hope the CF roof will be available for the regular 1M and not just a GTS/CSL version.

I was at dealer today and someone mentioned that there may be a CSL version of 1M with higher HP and some goodies. Scott?

I've spoken with BMW Belux this morning and for the moment they do not know much more but mark this date in your agenda : 12/12/10 will be the official release with pictures etc.

For the moment Belux is still negotiating the official price and equipment and the amount off cars who will be reserved for our market. Rumour is 40 à 45 cars...

Meh. Don't get your hopes up. That's probably just marketing trying to keep the buzz when the car has launched. They want people to talk about BMW on the internet, and they create all kinds of crazy rumors just for that.
The 1 M will already be very hard to get, in very limited numbers. A special version of a special version would be like, uhm, stupid?

Not to mention the car will have a prudction of 1 year, so I can hardly imagine any CSL edition of such a car.

I kind of see this 1M as a practice for the entire new one (F22 with I4 TT).

I have, however, no doubt there will be at least a couple of special models comming towards the end of the line.

^ Well, Porsche is setting a certain trend with special editions late n the life of a model (997). They make extra money, and a lot of press. And since every German maker copies the other, a special edition might just happen. But I expect another special edition of the M3, next to the GTS, first....

BMW considering performance program for the 1M Coupe which could result in a special edition series

Car designer Jon Sibal may have a scoop on the upcoming E82 1M Coupe - that we may see multiple iterations of that model.
In talking to his BMW sources, Sibal discovered that BMW are looking at special edition options for the upcoming 1M Coupe that could see a limited series variant taking inspiration from such BMW classics as the E36 LTW, E46 CSL and the more recent E92 GTS.
Sibal says specifically that BMW is considering a "Performance Program" for the 1M Coupe.
"Anything is possible, we have ideas and the creativity to expand. In the end it all comes down to the reception of the car," said Sibal's BMW source in an e-mail interview with him.
The next 1M Coupe is coming in a few days but production will run only until the spring of 2012. That is a little more than a year on the assembly line. And although BMW initially planned on limiting the 1M Coupe's number to 2700 units, it now says it will make as many as the market demands.
Sibal himself doubts we'll see a special edition 1M Coupe of this current generation. As his source tells him, they will probably hold onto those ideas for the next-generation.
The 1M Coupe will be unveiled this month featuring a 250 kW (340 PS / 335 bhp) twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine. But, as we've previously reported, a BMW product sheet listing all of the 1-Series engines showed a U.S. specified model with 332 kW (451 PS / 445 bhp).
Could that have been a hint?

The vent is just a shape which allows the side sill to form the wide wheelarch which features a typical M vent .
That was M stripes in similar idea to the front wings of the M5 CSL.
