The vent is just a shape which allows the side sill to form the wide wheelarch which features a typical M vent .

I like how they've integrated the vent there.

On the other hand, the ridiculously slow unveil process is becoming more or less tragi-comic...

You're correct, unfortunately they don't seem to be functional side gills, since there isn't an opening. I guess I should've said that I like how they integrated the M-emblem/indicator with the crease that runs along the car's side above the side skirt all the way to the fender.

m-power.com has a video of the reveal. It is funny how they don't realize how stupid two grown up guys stripping leather bits from a car looks - wouldn't be too out of place in some German dominatrix video. On the other hand Kay Segler also confirms 340HP.

At first I thaugt it was silly to have that crease if there were no vent... then it sprung to my mind that it wuld have been even more silly to have a vent without a purpose...

It´s a car that will stay berely one year on the market, so I wouldn´t be surprised, and would understand it.

It's fine with me, it's unique to 1er and the X3 M Sports doesn't have quads (yet!).

Only downside with this car is the poweroutput. Same horsepower as z4 35is which even isnt a true M car.
I hope they compensate it with low weight.

I like that cease, better looking than if there wasn't one, makes the exterior unique and gives it a sporty touch, I would have hated the car if there would have been a real hole there, so useless, too big and would have looked like it would have been an aftermarket accessory. All in all I'm happy with the appearance, hope the front lights won't be a mess though
