BMW City car on the way ... Isetta revival very possible

Re: BMW City car on the way

I have an issue of Auto Motor und Sport with iDrive inside the E53 X5 as a test for journalists and such, even before the Z9 was born. So basicly the idea is pretty old from BMW's site too, and was made up LONG before the iPod hype started.:usa7uh:

That's not true ( :D )

Check the date of that AMS issue. ;)

X5 E53 production started in September 1999, at the same time Z9 Gran Turismo Concept was presented at IAA Frankfurt. Although the X5 E53 was initially presented in January 1999, at NAIAS in Detriot. But w/o iDrive on board! And first drives by press were made in late fall 1999.

I guess, the X5 you're talking about is a special showcar: a research vehicle - presenting BMW ConnectedDrive systems. The car was presented in Turin, Italy in November 2000, at International Telematics Congress ITS.
This car could have iDrive on board - before it was officially launched in E65 7er at IAA Frankfurt 2001.

:t-hands:

I obviously know the E53 did not have iDrive in the production car ;)
I guess that the vehicle shown back then was indeed that research vehicle for connected drive.
I mean, if you say it's not true and I say it is....you are probably right again. LOL

Regardless, BMW's 'i' has nothing to do with Apple's 'i'

Re: BMW City car on the way

i think that history isn't really that important - in this case
the majority of people are going to read iSetta and think...hm sounds like an ipod - bmw copycats (i can already imagine AutoBilds Readers Letters)...
so i think that the longterm effect of such a namin construction doesn't help the iSetta brand image

Re: BMW City car on the way

My proposal: Algoretta (after the ex-Vice President of the US).

Re: BMW City car on the way

From AutoBild ... They claim BMW are seriously considering reviving the Isetta, and considering offering a micro-car Mini.

New Isetta:

Micro-car MINI:

i have to admit that the design seems okay, but it shouldn't turn out like that :eusa_pray

ah and finally something new on the minissimo thingy

A bit paradoxical statement.
Design is OK, but it shouldn't turn out like that??? :t-hands:
Why?

I find the new Isetta very amusing ... Cute, cult, iconic. Way better than 'smart'.

the problem i see with it, that it looks abit dull
and if they really want to go the iSetta direction(ipod generation, lifestyle bla bla), the design should be more orginal(even more like the original isetta)

Mind this is only an impression by Huckfeldt / AutoBild, not something semi-official from BMW. BMW AG still haven't decided anything ... especially not the design.

i know, i'm just evaluating what i see
and sometimes, huckfeld is dead on with his impressions
but you a right, its probably too early in the development cycle

You have to understand though at BMW every idea is re-evaluated even though it is not the idea chosen. Although this image started out as a potential X6 , The final example as you can see was re-evaluated to the car that will appear next week.

Although the sloping roof and shallow glass area will make it's appearance in the next X3. As with the first generation of a new model series is always to establish the concept . and the 2nd generation is to build on the strengths and play with it take conceptual thinking to the next stage.
as of now there will be a X1 , the new X3 will take centre stage as the mid line performance SAV (it's a 3er) and therefore the concept will be "played with" and offer something unique to take on it's growing rivals as initially when the X3 arrived there were none.

Yes there is plans to increase MINI with additional models the first will be a SAV concept - Deliciously MINI - Nice and Compact with MINI cues a concept car emulating the previous MINI Concept will appear this year as the teasing begins. A personal favourite of the worked on as we speak concept is the MINI SAV 3 bar grille featuring led strips along the bars , The headlights sit high on the bonnet similar to the Concept MINI series.
With the ISetta the design Huckfeldt has is taken from an actual design , BMW are seriously considering - And this is debate. People will be talking about this as well as a MINIssimo Concept sometime in the next few years.

But MINI will start a teaser campaign which work has commenced on for the next generation MINI Cabrio in the new year. But BMW's big news of 2008 will be the F01 7er. Nothing else compares to that.

The MINI Cabrio campaign will be called "Re-opening Soon"...

I don't like the chop either, like you said it looks a bit dull, like a smart remolded with a BMW badge on it. Looks a little too much like a toy. What I want to see it something stylish and charming with plenty of chrome details.
