Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

So BMW are planning about developing a smart competitor. Hmmm then I guess MB shouldn't throw Smart in the bin...................yet.

Hi I am currently on assignment , but rest assured all your PM's and queries will be answered ... I am especially interested in updating you on this topic and of the BMW Z-Zero to which you want to identify this project you have to go back to the Concept Car 4/2.

In the mean time some hard is commencing on the 1er Coupe @MySpace.
There will be exclusive content relating to this exciting new car with related music choices to web documentaries including development and marketing and an introduction to Mr H. The creation of a web anomaly.

When the site goes online in September everyone is invited...

Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

Didn't BMW have some city scooter thing with a roof on top?

Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

I found this page :
BMW Information

In addition to the concept Z21 (Just 4/2) it also shows other (I am not sure if all) BMW concepts of the last ~20 something years....enjoy

Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

Now if BMW does this they will have officially run amok. There is absolutely no need for such a car under the BMW brand, none.

Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

If MB branded the Smart, Smart, then BMW will not brand its equivalent BMW. If it's true it's good i think, Smart is really handy in congested cities like Hong Kong or Singapore, you can park however you want, but 3.75m is not that small...

Here is a link to an article in the German 'Autobild'

AUTO BILD-Vorschau Mercedes B-Klasse - Auto-Neuheiten - autobild.de

Its talking about the future development of the Mercedes 'B-Class' , but also mentions among other things that there are talks between BMW and Mercedes about a joint development of a future model /platform replacing Mercedes 'A-Class' and a model smaller than BMW's Mini :

Quote Klaus Draeger (Head of Development at BMW).
"Die Evolution des Mini, auch in Abgrenzung zu BMW, ist eines der Themen, die uns beschäftigen. Ausschließen will ich allerdings einen BMW mit Vorderradantrieb."

Translation :
'The evolution of the Mini, its distinguishing from BMW. is one of the themes we are discussing. But I would rule out a BMW with front wheel drive'

Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

Great BMW! Thank you!! It is amazing how it keeps and maintains its heritage and Rear-Wheel-Drive!

Re: BMW City car (the "0er" ???) on the way

Well...the good news is that it is not going to come out as a FWD BMW...which is a very good thing!

I guess now with the FIAT 500, competition is getting pretty intense.

More details on the rumored BMW minicar

BMW is considering developing a new low-emissions minicar to help reduce its fleet average emissions levels in light of new CO2 standards being pushed by the EU. Insiders reveal that initial work for the development of a new model smaller than the Mini is in progress though final production plans are yet to be confirmed.
If given the green light, the new minicar could hit the market by 2010 along with several similar models from rivals Volkswagen and Audi. People close to the project have told the Financial Times that any new super-mini would unlikely be badged as a BMW and would share its platform with the current Mini.
Previous reports suggested that the car would be FWD and measure no more than 3.75m in length. Production would also be outsourced to Magna Steyr but the engines and drivetrain would be built by BMW at plants in Germany.
Pictured above is the Isetta minicar that was produced by Italy’s Iso and sold as a BMW during the 1950s.

Preview: 2010 BMW Minicar

There have been numerous reports pertaining to the possibility of BMW building a new model positioned below the 1-series hatch that’ll share its underpinnings with the current Mini. Not only would the car be the first FWD BMW, it would also be cheapest as it’s rumored to cost less than the aforementioned Mini.
Part of the reason for BMW considering such a model is the mounting environmental awareness that’s spreading across Europe. A new, low-emissions minicar would help reduce BMW’s fleet average emissions levels in light of the new CO2 standards being pushed by the EU and it’d also give it a better standing against similar superminis being developed by rival brand Audi and to a less extent VW.
Though we highly doubt BMW designers would style the car after the striking Concept CS as this rendering suggests, any model wearing the Propeller Badge would likely feature the trademark kidney grille. According to earlier reports, development has been carried out on the new model although final production plans are yet to be confirmed.
