Comparison tests BMW 5 Series vs Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Expected. But still i remember the beating the F10 took against the new E, is the G30 that better or were they overrating the new E back then ?

Eagerly anticipating the inevitable Autocar twin-test of the G30 up against the firm favourite Jag XF, where of course the Jag takes overall victory :biggrin.doodle::happy001:

Better handling , more comfortable and better quality interior a repetitive theme for the new 5er. The King is back , long live the King. Nice try E class but as the article says still some way off the new 5er. Try again with her W214.

Best not take ANY reviews too seriously. It's just an opinion. It's funny how a verdict is either correct or an absolute joke depending on how it fits with one's own viewpoint. Go through What Car and you'll find a verdict which you don't like. So does that mean they're reliable reviewers or not?

By the way, the same magazine did a group test with the F10 5 Series vs the brand new E-Class and Jag XF, and the BMW won that.

Car journalists tend to overrate new arrivals on the market, especially hotshots like the E and the 5er. Imo the E was sometimes overrated, just as the G30 is overrated right now. Interesting will be the comparison in a few years, say FL time for the both of them. The hype of the newest is gone by then.

Whatcar say the E-class infotainment system is ancient, what alot of horseshite!

Command is what Nokia and Blackberry were to Apple and Samsung ... Ancient . After so many years they still can't get it right.

The E-class has a new command system, totally different to what is in the S-class and C-class and any other Mercedes models. Watch the videos and you will see, its at least as good as the latest Audi and BMW systems.

That's the all bells and whistles high cost application. Benefit of the doubt given for now. The standard is still far too clunky and takes forever to update.
Its not the worst though. Cadillac's is absolutely abysmal.

I own a E class and I definitely don't agree with the review..I can't comment on the 5 series much as I have not driven or sat in one u did spend good time in a 7..

With regards to the E class the interview quality is superb no single area which I would say it's poor in terms of quality and fit or finish.

Regarding command I would say the E class command is very intuitive and not difficult at all to use and it's for sure way ahead of the C Class command..initially it may take a bit of getting used to but I have my car now for a few months and I hardly use the centre command rotary switch or the touch pad in fact the steering mounted touch buttons do most things perfectly and very easy I can change most of the stuff without even looking away from the road or screen..

The steering touch buttons are very good and easy to use not as fast as maybe the buttons in your Samsung s7 or I phine 7 but they work very well...

Overall regarding the command in the new E I don't see it being behind the 7 series I do have the fully loaded one so I am commenting on this ..yes the 7 has a touch screen and the 5er so that should be a added advantage in some ways but then again the E has those touch pads on the steering..

Just my opinion...I definitely don't agree with the review.

Especially part from 1:36 to 1:40

Intuitive? Not intuitive? It comes down to what you're used to. After 5 days in a G11 I still thought my car more intuitive and easier to operate than the G11.

There is one area where MB can improve on, those gloss black buttons on the lower dashboard and around the command controller felt a bit loose and light to press. It is a small but significant thing which IMO detracts from the overall feel of the interior.

I would have liked the full wood around that area but it's not available on the E the buttons around the controller seem good on my car .
