It seems to me that they are just quoting manufacturers numbers except the track times.

Re: AutoZeitung: Audi S5 vs BMW 335i.

It doesn't matter who's first or last. These guys have opinions and preferences like everyone else. I'll take both please. S5 and 335i in white for me please.

Re: AutoZeitung: Audi S5 vs BMW 335i.

In this test the S5 had optional 19” tires in dimension 255/35-19 (Dunlop SP Sportmaxx), while the 335i had standard 17” tires (Brigdestone Potenza RE 050A II).

The beemer had the gripper tire and the better optimised alloy size.

I just can´t help wondering what result it would be if 335i had M-package installed:cool: .Perfomanace-wise probably would not change much,but overall..I don´t know:t-hands: .

Good for the S5, it's an awesome car for sure. Winning this little over a regular non-M 3er is a little embarrassing though, I must say.

I can't wait to read reviews of the M3 vs S5. If they test the 335i against the S5, they will do this too.
And when the top A5 model launches, the RS5, it can make interesting tests against the top 3er model, the M3 CSL :eusa_danc

Sorry Klier, I do believe I already addressed this issue in another thread, which you never responded back. As I told you before, the M3 competes against the RS5. Audi doesn't offer a weight reduced version of it's vehicles to compete against BMW's M3 CSL! You expect people to believe that a car that offers little to no creature comforts is a direct competitor with a car that offers all of them? That train of thought simply isn't rational my friend, I'd like you to explain yourself if possible! I honestly don't believe there's a single member here that shares your view on this matter.
Like it or not, Audi's S division isn't for the hardcore driver, that's Audi's RS division job.

335i vs. S5
M3 vs. RS5 vs. CLK63 AMG
M3 CSL vs. ???

If it cost $30,000 more I'd say it competes with the CLK63 BS and the GT3, but it doesn't!;)

Point is, Audi should get in the game!

In creating their respective top version (RS, CSL and BS) of the bread winning line each company creates a very different procuct. Shame the others does not wish to be compared to the CSL. Last time the CSL had to go for the Porsche 996 GT3 and the likes of that car. Maybe last time, when there was no competition for the CSL in its own class (A4, 3-series, C-class, IS), it was ok to pit the CSL against Ferrari CS and Porsche GT3... but this time there is competition. BMW will not build a car that people cant live with - that would be plain stupid.

In the last thread when this matter was addressed RICHBOY told us that the comfort of the CSL was absolutely crap. Thing is, if nothing has changed, RICHBOY does not know at all what he is talking about. Maybe if the US get the new CSL he will have the chance to make up his mind on something more substantial than not liking BMW.

I think we got this subject cleared the last time, no need to do a rerun.

Really dr Dunkel, so are you saying that BMW's M3 CSL is a direct competitor with Audi's up coming RS5? If so is it your position that a potential RS5 buyer would also consider buying a E92 M3 CSL? I was wondering if you knew why the previous M3 CSL never came to the United States, I know why, I was just wondering do you?

You'd do much better trying to pick apart what I actually said, rather then trying to play me out, your not built enough dr. Dunkel! Furthermore you actually believe your qualified to speak to my likes and dislikes? Do your homework son, it will help come test time!;)

Enlighten me, I dont know?

Anyway, its new times now. In US you can buy a 997 GT3 or AMG Black Series and they are similar cars like M3 CSL. The market for those three arent big as ordinary M3, 911 or CLK63/slk55 but if there is intrest for such cars then BMW can sell CSL versions as well just like the competition.

I fail to believe you don't know why JM, however I'd be shocked if dr Dunkel knows!;) In a global economy there's only one reason why products don't cross the ocean. No matter what other reasons are given, there's only one explaination! Anyone care to take a guess?

Im honest I dont have a 100% answer but my guess, its more expensive than a M3 and the lack of manuell gearbox and it was built in limited edition. I know that there came a M3 CS to US (includes: * 19-inch BBS forged alloy wheels* Specially tuned suspension for the Competition Package* More direct steering ratio of 14.5:1 (from 15.4:1) allowing quicker turn-in * M-Track Mode (similarly to the CSL model) with a button mounted on the steering wheel* Compound cross-drilled rotors from the M3 CSL model and larger front rotor of 13.6 inches (from 12.8 inches)* Alcantara steering wheel, gear lever and hand brake) before production of M3 E46 ended.

Anyway, Its new days now, a couple of years later.
Black Series and GT3 RS are for sale in US so hopefully next generation M3 CSL can be sold there too. As a carentusiast you should like it and not be so negative towards the CSL concept.

I haven't been negative towards the CSL concept!:t-hands: My position is there isn't a competitive model offered from Audi to compete with the M3 CSL. Klier continues to try and make M cars compete against S cars, and RS models compete against CSL models. Which doesn't make a lick of sense, Audi's not gonna pull the rear seats out of the RS5, amongest other weight reducing measures for a car that's not gonna make much of a impact in the financial department. You get my point?

uhm okej but there is no point to pull out backseats out of a RS5, bmw didnt do that with CSL either. I wouldnt mind seeing a a hotter RS5 called something like RS5++.
Why should everything be so focused around the US market, let us europeans have some fun :D if BMW and MB can build lightweight cars then so can Audi. Give us Europeans more lightweight versions
