Vs Autobild: Test BMW 740i vs. Audi A8 4.2 FSI vs. Mercedes S 450

In this test they like the Turbo engine in the 7er and said there is no need for a V8.

????? You mean V12 right?
Saw the 7er in the flesh this week, unfortunately at night and in the opposite direction. Will visit the dealer to get a closer look!!

Nope, the V8. I think they compared this new Turbo I6 with the previous V8 found in the 7-series.

The Audi is quite sad really...it has the most hp, yet the slowest times....BMW's 3.0 liter I6 is doing pretty great here against a 4.2 liter V8

I like the downsizing that BMW is doing... I hope MB and Audi will follow suit. Forced induction is the way to go to lowering fuel consumption will continuing to provide performance.

That said, I guess that's the price you pay for quattro (most hp, slowest times). If compared to say a S450 4MATIC or 740i xDrive (does that exist?) then we get a fairer picture.

Two wonderfully different interpretations of a luxury interior that examine the very pinnacle of what each of the two respective companies stand for.. BMW = driver orientated, MB = Opulent and excessive comfort. Great time to buy a luxury barge!

BOTH need new steering wheel designs!!! The Steering wheel is the only real resemblance I see between the X5 and the F01. I prefer the facelift E65 steering wheel.

^pics above made S-Class interior look bit old and sterile compared to BMW´s..Thats my impression..Quality of finish is also,as seen on these pics,on BMW´s side..Basicly,IMO BMW is strong now in areas where MB had dominance for many years..

Lets not forget it's a very vibrant interior combination in the 7 Series and possibly the most dull in the S Class. But yes, the 7 Series does have a more exciting design to the interior as a whole. The Mercedes suffers in the blandness of the lower dash. The BMW dials are also quite more elegant then the S Class. I do prefer the wrap around effect of the integration between the door and the dash of the S Class.

They're both great, but the BMW seems to be a bit fussy compared to the comparatively sterile S, which I think makes them both perfect for their respective customers. A cockpit like environment in the BMW and an uncluttered, relaxed and elegant layout in the S.

The colour combination shown on the S does it no favours, as Potential pointed out. With the right colours and trims both interiors are pretty much on par.

I was driving around Munich earlier today just for fun and already spotted three of the new 7er's! Two I caught on film, the other one was spotted passing me on the other side and I couldn't get a shot of it. Looking really good. Two were black and one was silver. Captured a black one and a silver one. Getting the pictures up ASAP. :t-cheers:

I found this quite biased. For Me S class is still at the top. BMW even in new 7 series not able to match NVH levels of S class. S class was launched in 2005 and new 7 series is just launched.

What a pity, even after three years BMw is not able to match NVH levels of S class which was launched in 2005. S class still better, watch out for facelift S class.

Judging from the figures, the BMW isn't particularly loud, a normal human ear don't really notice a 1 dB(A) difference between the soudn pressure levels. At 130km/h they are all equally loud inside, so there isn't mucb between them.

Spotted yesterday. Sorry for the crap shots. I was driving around Munich. Try taking pictures with a DSLR while driving. It takes skill. :D

Today I was in Denmark and saw my first 7-series on the road. I have only seen the car at my dealers but finaly I spotted the car driving on the road.

Yeah i agree, the Mercedes-Benz S class is deffinately the best.
This type of car is Mercede's speacailty that they have perfected for a hundred years.
All companies BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz are the best and have their own little nitch in the car world, but Mercedes has this one in the bag.
I mean just basing apoun looks and the s-class smokes both.

For all the German car inthusiasts, atleast we all can agree that the Germans completely out class the japanees contenders. no disscussion.
Lexus does not come even close to the worst german sedan.

I agree. You can't go wrong with any car here. It is simply a matter of taste and brand loyalty and other factors. ;)

LOL :D

I wish that were true but it sadly isn't. I am no friend to Lexus at all. In fact I despise their image and how people rate them as being on the same prestige level as BMW or Mercedes (when in reality they have less brand prestige than Skoda, Renault or Citroen or even Fiat in my opinion (I can explain to you why this is so...)).

They do make excellent cars and these cars make the Germans work harder - and in the end we win. :t-cheers:

But I love bashing Lexus from time to time too. Especially when there is a grain of truth in it. :D
