Golf [Article] Fastest ever Golf is officially unveiled and headed to production

I can't see how it would cost more than an A45/CLA45 or RS3. Right? Which are of course less than the M3/M4...

It will certainly cost more than the regular Golf R. Given the fact that this will probably be a limited production version, I'd say that VW would ask at least 10.000€ more, right? Ok, M3/M4 money is an exaggeration, but I doubt this will be a bargain!

I don't think the M3/M4 are all that special, being based on the F30 which is pretty common and that the Golf interior doesn't suffer in comparison with the F30 either. Put this drivetrain in the next Jetta and in the Golf wagon and I'd take either over an M3.

I'd say that to most of us, those who know the difference between WBA and WBS, an M3/M4 is much more special.

:)

I initially read you to say comfort is when you eventually stop feeling your cock and balls. Very little comfort in that, unless you can get your girlfriend to feel them for you.

^ Yeah about time you buy me something.. cheap mofo!

Spending all your money on butt plugs and such to pleasure yourself during my absence!

Its amazing that we can discuss something serious like Golf R400 & butt plugs in the same thread. Classy.

Considering it has the same power AND weight of a 911 4S, I would say it will be quite a bargain. Given these concepts specs here, it will outperform an M3 and Cayman S but cost less than either while having more passenger room, cargo room, and all-weather capability. Sounds like a REAL bargain to me actually...

BMW's and Porsches' have gotten stupid expensive these days. Here in the US and M3/M4 is $70k+ and a Cayman S $80k+ for a well-equipped model. This Golf R 400 SHOULD be under $50k...

And I agree that the M3/M4 would be more desireable but honestly there is nothing special about a standard issue M3/M4 these days. They are actually the catch-all for anyone with any European performance aspirations this side of a 911 in the marketplace. This limited-run Golf R 400 is the type of car you will see rolling across an auction block in the future.

Could have up to 420 PS
We haven't heard much about theVolkswagen Golf R400 lately but a new report is indicating it has been approved for production and will be launched next year.

Citing company insiders, Car Magazine is reporting the production model will follow in the footsteps of the concept and adopt a restrained body kit that features a number of aerodynamic styling tweaks. The car is also slated to feature all-wheel drive, a high-performance braking system and a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that develops up to 420 PS (309 kW) and 450 Nm (331 lb-ft) of torque.

The car will reportedly debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and go on sale last next year. Nothing is official but pricing is expected to start at less than €50,000 in Germany.

Volkswagen Golf R420 spied for the first time

Should cost less than €50,000
A prototype of the Volkswagen Golf R420 (name not confirmed) has been caught on camera for the very first time undergoing testing on the Nürburgring in Germany.

Ever since Volkswagen took the wraps off the Golf R400 concept more than a year ago, many reports emerged about the possibility of a production version. VWconfirmed plans last month and now the first spy photos with a prototype have emerged ahead of next year's expected launch at a price tag well above the Golf R (€39,000) but below the €50,000 mark.

While the concept packed a 400 PS punch from a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, the production version is expected to have as much as 420 PS, hence the name. Interestingly, our spy photographers say the prototype depicted in the attached images sounded like a 5-cylinder, but we will have to wait for a confirmation from Volkswagen.

Regardless of the engine, power will be channeled as expected to a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system while the identity of the gearbox is not known at this point but it will likely be a DSG. The prototype spotted is obviously based on the 300 PS Golf R but adopts larger alloy wheels, front spoiler lip, a big roof-mounted wing and a lowered sports suspension.

Expect the Volkswagen Golf R400 / R420 to show up at a major auto show in 2016, possibly in Geneva set for March.

I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a Golf.

While this could very well be a point, I have to say that, in my experience, the Golf is an insultingly cheap car. I drive a GTI and it was just waaaaaaaaaayyy (12k euros) than a A250 with almost no options. And the GTI has almost every extra except electric seats and pano roof.

So yep, I would not pay that money for a Golf, but it might be much cheaper than other german alternatives with less power.
