CLE [Official] Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupé (C236)

The Mercedes-Benz CLE is a grand tourer which consists of the C236 coupe and the A236 cabriolet that were both launched in 2023 and replaced both the C-Class and E-Class coupes.

Is there going to be a CLE 4-Door coupe? I remember that was also rumoured.'

From what I understand that project got shelved early on. The CLA will continue to exist and AMG is going to take another go at producing a 4 door coupe on their EV platform. Ola seems much more interested in creating niche vehicles at the upper end of the segment.

Now that you mention it, the whole rumored first "CLE" thing was born because it would be the four door coupe.
Strange and even a mistake I consider the fact that they have not started there...

With the 4GC sweeping sales for quite some time and how well the A5 Sportback has always been, one would think that the best strategy was that, but the new CLA will surely grow in size and cover that part.....(already It sells a lot), and I think it is one of the most attractive and charismatic products, let's say "special" of the brand.

To your point, the CLA is already about the same length as the C-class and the MMA platform CLA is indeed supposed to be roomier inside. It's also going to be debuting a lot of new tech so yes I suppose Mercedes felt that market segment was sufficiently addressed with the CLA.

Off topic note.. is this a new thing? I had to confirm that I liked your post...

And yeah. They just need to fix that damn rear end and it would be good. Oh well...
Must be. I no longer get any alerts when someone likes etc or responds to a post.

That is just not true. The decision to combine these two model lines was not made recently, but rather several years ago. If this was a C-class coupe that got rebadged mid-development it wouldn't have these dimensions. People pointing out that this has the C-class wheelbase are ignoring that it has the C-class sedan wheelbase. If it was originally planned as the C-class coupe, the wheelbase would be even shorter just like the W205 coupe vs. sedan.

Truthfully, if this had an E-class interior and front end what part of it would make it in between the C-class and E-class in positioning? Nothing. It would just be an E-class coupe. The outcome of this model was intentional and clearly there was not tons of budget for it nor was there a desire to make this more an E-class than a C-class.

I think we will just have to disagree. Regardless of dimensions the profile shows that the body of the CLE is a clear evolution of the C-Coupe.

Internal dimensions have not governed Mercedes naming strategy for coupes for some years. The current E-coupe has a significantly larger back seat than the now discontinued S-coupe.

Furthermore the larger external dimensions of all the new Mercedes vehicles has also been driven by the need to accommodate batteries of hyrbid drivetrains etc. The significant growth in length has not yielded significantly larger passenger accommodations. It has mostly benefited the boot space of non-hybrid variants.

I hope MB is working on a 4 door coupe, either AMG only or Mercedes and AMG, that sits above this CLE. That would be a real sweet spot IMO, though I'm sure it will be EV only.

Just as I said a few months back. The C coupes never had good proportions in standard form but that was always fixed with the 63 variants. Exactly what I was expecting with this CLE.
Unfortunately I don't see them giving the CLE 53 the "wide body" treatment and I only care for the I6s.

Objectively speaking the car looks good but I can’t help but be a little disappointed all the same. It’s like this car should have come out in 2019 as the two-door CLA and it would have been great. Now it feels like I’ve seen the car already years ago even though it’s brand new.

I don't understand a word they're saying, but it's a good look at the car.

If you think the CLA is roomier than a C-class, you are greatly mistaken. The reason the CLA is the same length is the larger overhangs front and rear from the front wheel drive architecture. The CLA is 4 inches shorter between the axles, which is where the passenger compartment is. Plus, not as wide.

I appreciate the input, but I didn’t say that at all. I did say the upcoming MMA platform CLA is supposed to be roomier, which would mean it could get closer to the interior space of the C-class.
