Certainly not one of the high points of Michael Schumachers' career, that Adelaide shunt with Damon Hill. Brainfade-similar to which he experienced at Jarez in 1997. Unbridled warrior instincts eliminating clear thought, reason and scruples.

And yet, I have always been of the opinion that, in the end, Schumacher was deserving of the 1994 F1 WDC. We'll never know how things would have panned-out had Ayrton Senna not met his tragic fate at Imola and all else is merely conjecture. Michael did, however, dominate Damon Hill in terms of race performances. 8 wins versus Damon Hills' 6 (4 of those in races in which Schumacher/Benneton was/were either disqualified or banned). Actually, the only race that I recall in which Hill really shined versus Schumacher was Suzuka-which was indeed a truly epic drive by Damon.

A driver could have 21 pole positions in one season, but if they don't win a race they won't be the World Champion. Being a World Champion is much more than driving a fast lap (of which Hamilton has had many, by the way). It's about having the whole package, from managing tyres, fuel, avoiding coming into contact with rivals and back markers, dealing with rain etc.

Part of the package is also being able to duel wheel to wheel with other drivers, teams and cars. Starting at the front and getting a win really doesn't demonstrate your skill as a racer in this respect. I'd argue that a driver that started last and finished second in every race, is probably a better driver than one that started on pole, and won every race. It's also a lot more exciting to watch.

I agree, and I don't think Hamilton has any issues there.

I don't either, but it's a character that the recent 'lights-to-flag' style dominant champions don't display that often by virtue of being dominant in qualifying.

It's one of the things I like about the BTCC, across the three races in a weekend you get a grid set by outright pace, then a grid set by race pace, then a grid with a randomised element - it's more entertaining and you get to see the drivers handling a wider array of situations.

What do you think guys, is there any chance that Lewis would take a risk in the future and sign with Ferrari, or will he finish career with Mercedes?

Very posible he will sign with Ferrari IMO

I completely agree. I've stated my opinion regarding F1 many times here, so I won't redo another long boring one.

I understand that F1 is a showcase about engineering prowess and technology, but it's a motorSPORT, where the word sport is supposed to mean competition, and I can't see that in F1.

That last race at Brands Hatch is an evidence that there is something lacking in the pinnacle of motorsports...

BIG TIME

It would be fantastic to see qualifying done in a lottery style (pulling numbers out of a hat) system. I'd watch that. Hell they could still keep the Q1, Q2 and Q3 to give those pretty girls a break handling all those balls.

Recent speculation in the German motorsports press: Lewis Hamilton + Toto Wolff IN/Sebastian Vettel + Mattia Binotto OUT at Ferrari as of the 2021 season.

F1 were considering a reverse grid at several races next season but I believe this has been abandoned now. Shame.

Another report says that Mercedes is forcing F1 to give them a better position in the next concorde deal and thus threatening to leave, but will likely stay in f1 past 2020 to a certainty of 75%.

So at this time everything is speculation and the circus will continue like this through 2020.

If mercedes remains and hamilton and totto moves to ferrari, ferrari will not win anyway.

The only way ferrari can win is if mercedes quits.

Seriously ?! :wtf:

Apparently a plausible scenario. Rumours have it that Toto Wolffs' excellent relationship with former Daimler-Benz CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche cannot and will not be replicated with Dr. Zs' successor Ola Källenius (Källenius reportedly a sceptic regarding M-Bs' direct participation as a F1 team, preferring the role as an engine supplier only). And with recent austerity measures having been announced by Källenius, M-Bs' involvement in F1 in general will be under scrutiny. Toto Wolff is widely recognized as the most competent current F1 team manager, Lewis Hamilton as the most complete current F1 driver. Neither Mattia Binotto nor Sebastian Vettel can claim those accolades.

"The only way ferrari can win is if mercedes quits."

I'd be inclined to consider this:

The defection of Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari could conceivably usher an era similar to that of the "Todt/Brawn/Byrne/Schumacher" reign. A prospect that may attract the best engineers, designers and technicians that F1 has to offer to the Scuderia Ferrari. Although Lewis Hamilton will be entering the eve of his career as a driver, I suspect that he still has a few very good years in front of him. And with the highly talented and still young Charles Leclerc firmly planned and placed, Lewis may be inclined and certainly qualified to take an inspirational role as a mentor...of course, after having captured a WDC or two himself with Ferrari.

Toto is shareholder of Mercedes F1 team, so it's not that easy to go in Ferrari.
And, why he would ?
Only reason is, if Mercedes plan to quit F1 team.
I don't see reason why they would do that, but who knows.

Toto Wolff is very savvy as well as experienced when it comes to matters such as these. He was also a Williams shareholder previous to his engagement with M-B/AMG-Petronas F1.

Yes, but why would he go to Ferrari ?
If Mercedes stay in championship.
They have successful and rock solid team, something what Ferrari lacking.
You don't change team which wins.
Any reason would be if Mercedes leave F1, my opinion.
