Better than a sedan, but still a bad front design.

The XM was also a controversial car in terms of its drivetrain. I'm leaving aside the identity issues. The GT doesn't have those problems. The only issue is that it was produced at the wrong time. That's why its price is questionable. I would speak differently if the market were dominated by electric cars.

This might be a controversial opinion but I kinda love the way the XM and this upcoming GT SUV look, lol. There’s just something about them that tickles my brain.

Let's leave the AI slop out of this thread, please.

And every other thread too, the forum is literally infested with it.
The Alpina thread is absolutely wild as well. Sedans, cabrios, the whole fake nine yards.

I genuinely think we need some hard rules. It's completely out of control and it's always the usual suspects posting them.

Lighter colors will work well when the underlying design is sound IMHO:

Dude, my man, sir, the underlying design is completely changed by AI. That whole front is completely different form the real thing. What is even the point of posting junk like that?

Mark my words : When Leylandi will have something bad to say about an MB design , the end of the world will arrive !

That will be the sign !

Unlike AI, humans have the ability to be reasonable along lines that don't have to be black and white.
For instance, if someone with a good deal of talent like @Uygar goes and presents various interpretations of the BMW Alpina Concept - such as those very cool cabrios - then the content is justified in the context of the topic.
In such cases, the artwork presented is relevant and points to potential application of the new design theme.

But when the image is clearly so meaningless and without context, generated by nothing more that imaginary babble, then with the same applied reason people should ask themselves - does this add any value to the conversation?

I mean I definitely see what you mean and I agree to some degree, but where do you draw the line and what makes Uygar any different from Jimmy? It's still all complete non realistic vaporware diluting real life.

I think the main problem is that they tried to mix together a lot of different signature features from several Mercedes design directions.

We were told the Concept GT XX is the blueprint for the production model, and while I hate the front, the rear looked good.
But eventually it became a Vision AMG + Concept XX + EQ forced elements, based on Wageners “Sensual purity”. The whole issue with the Sensual Purity direction is that it almost exclusively emphasizes the side profile of the car, and they totally neglected everything else….

The front of both Concepts and in general the EQ cars are shit, there is no need to sugarcoat, but instead of doing something new, or at least staying true to one direction, they mixed it together in a very ugly way.

On the rear though they should have simply use the Concept XX for reference, thats it, why introduce that bow light bar from the Vision AMG??

Anyways… even though its ugly - and I dont like it - I’m almost certain that the general perception on the rear of the car will change, and it will grow on us, just like the BMW M vertical grills or some Ferrari designs from more recent models. Regarding the front, its just too busy. The non ligthbar design is definitely an afterthought, but its still better than that disco bs.

It’s more “brutal” than the previous gen, but I’m afraid in bright or light colors it simply wont look good, and cars in this category should aim to pop in every way possible, and not hide.

Just my 2c

Suffice to say that this issue is highly contentious and will probably remain so for quite some time to come. And I can assure you that, I too, have the highest respect for contributors such as @Ugyar who are in possession of genuine design handcraft skills. I most certainly am not, obviously. But I am passionate about automotive design to the degree that I feel compelled to somehow visualize what occupies my mind in this general context. Of course, I could attempt to articulate it in the form of worded essays that could end up being seemingly endless (I know, I can have a tendency to do this ;)) as well as susceptible to misinterpretation. And blurting out phrases such as "It's fugly", "It's disgusting" or posting laugh emojis is not a basis for any sort of discerning exchange. Hence, AI Slop is a mode, and I am sure not only my mode, of somehow transporting this. But I also certainly "get" the reservations, especially voiced by those who are actually, in some way or another, professionally anchored in automotive/industrial design. I understand it. As I understand the sort of threatening aura that AI in general presents to many professions.

Jeez… Was the rear of the XX that hard to put into production?. I thought it would come out exactly like that.

It all depends on the context I guess. Every visual stuff I post on here is either my own design work, or a realistic render based on the actual spy photos that I hand sketch, then translate into 3D. I never use AI to create something completely fictional.
But yeah, instances like the Alpina cabrio, or other design renders might be counted as non realistic. It’s important to keep the visual stuff related to the topic, otherwise it’s pure nonsense. I totally agree on that.
