6 Series 2017 BMW 6 Series Rumors

The BMW 6 Series is a range of grand tourers produced by BMW since 1976. It is the successor to the E9 Coupé. The first generation BMW E24 6 Series was available solely as a two-door coupé and produced from 1976 to 1989, when it was supplanted by the larger BMW 8 Series (E31). When the 6 Series nameplate was revived in 2004 for the second generation, the BMW E63/E64 6 Series, the coupé was joined by a convertible body style. The third generation F06/F12/F13 6 Series debuted in 2011 as a coupé and convertible, and a sedan variant known as the "Gran Coupé" in 2012. When the F06/F12/F13 6 Series ended production, the "Gran Coupé"/coupé/convertible models shifted into the more upmarket BMW 8 Series (G15) nameplate. The fourth generation 6 Series, the G32 6 Series, debuted in mid-2017 and is offered only as a fastback body style to complement the BMW 5 Series (G30) sedan/wagon.

Quick comparison...

I like the fastback style (i hope, this is no cameo!!!!) of the new 6er. The old one looks by comparison mutilated.

Good spot.

I've GIF-ized it, to me the wheels on the new car look an inch larger than those on the old car.. so I've based my focal point around the rear wheel centre.

It still looks more compact, and sleeker, in every dimension to me.

I'm stick with 6-er, not 8-er. If this is the 8-er, then the 8-er is not a big luxury GT car.

I was waiting for your analysis...good GIF :)!

What do you think about the wheelbase comparisons?

Going off those images it's perhaps not as big of a difference as I first thought. With no fixed point of reference it's difficult to say, but it still seems to be a more compact car all round.

If the old one was 2855mm wheel base on Style 234 18's, and the new one is riding on 19's, I reckon it to be about 2785mm. If the new one is riding on 18's, I reckon it to be about 2710mm.

.. I could be wrong of course.

Very nice, the only thing thats telling me this could be an 8 series is the exhaust shape, which is shared with the 7 series and not the 5er.

With the better side profile shot it does look bigger to me... going by the wheelbase, I'm sticking to my prediction that it will have a shorter wheelbase than the current 6-er, though maybe not by as much as my earlier post stated.

This is what Carscoops had to say:

It's no secret that a new coupe is heading our way. The question is whether the test mule snapped here is actually the new 6-Series Coupe, as the source who provided the images claims, or the reborn 8-Series that almost all other reports claim the new model will be named

I think the 8 series roofline will not as compromised as this, but have a more traditional roofline and accommodating for rear passengers. More on the lines of this:

The source is the spy photographer. They usually send a description with the photos based on what they read on the Internet. Again, no 6 Series Coupe.

I appreciate your validity, and I'm in no way to questioning your accuracy - but my hearts telling me this is a 6 series!
