6 Series 2017 BMW 6 Series Rumors

The BMW 6 Series is a range of grand tourers produced by BMW since 1976. It is the successor to the E9 Coupé. The first generation BMW E24 6 Series was available solely as a two-door coupé and produced from 1976 to 1989, when it was supplanted by the larger BMW 8 Series (E31). When the 6 Series nameplate was revived in 2004 for the second generation, the BMW E63/E64 6 Series, the coupé was joined by a convertible body style. The third generation F06/F12/F13 6 Series debuted in 2011 as a coupé and convertible, and a sedan variant known as the "Gran Coupé" in 2012. When the F06/F12/F13 6 Series ended production, the "Gran Coupé"/coupé/convertible models shifted into the more upmarket BMW 8 Series (G15) nameplate. The fourth generation 6 Series, the G32 6 Series, debuted in mid-2017 and is offered only as a fastback body style to complement the BMW 5 Series (G30) sedan/wagon.
Some quick "off-the-screen" measurements.. if those wheels are 18"-19" then the wheelbase would be 2.5m - 2.6m. The current 6-er is 2855mm ... even if they were twenties and I was out by a couple of inches it's still noticeably more compact than the current one.

.. I think they a definately scaling the 6 down, which kind of goes along with the idea of them making it sportier. Though it makes me worry that the GC becomes a little silly size and proportion wise -- and that reinforces the idea they've skipped it in favour of the 5/6GT....

.. Makes the Convertible seem a little less likely too, since it might encroach a bit on the Z5 (depending on how they position that).

Nice observation. I hope the wheelbase is similliar to the current car - just shorter than the 5 series. even with this size I still think there's still room for a S coupe size 8 series

The 6 series family at the moment have amazing proportions thanks to the size of the wheelbase - with the new platform and the decreased weight, it can still emphasise sport even at this size.

I'm pretty sure this will be noticeably shorter than the current one, and that leaves masses of room for an 8-er to grow into something the size of the C217.

I hope... I want it to remain significantly bigger than the 4er coupe

The Gran Coupe will probably use an extended version of this wheelbase. I still think BMW will produce a separate 5GT along with a future 6GC.

When designing these vehicles I presume they planned a long way into the future regarding the life of these products, and I doubt they would rebrand/ scrap them after 1 generation of each vehicle.

Its the first modern BMW to showcase some design elements from the Vision Future Luxury.

Does it means the VFL design elements will find their way into all new generations of BMW Sedans and Coupes beginning with the new 6?

A lot more exciting that the upcoming E coupe anyway - we don't know the interior, front or rear unlike some..

Somewhere I have read the next generation of X5 and 6 will be the first BMW's with the next generation of iDrive which will get also a new control concept.

Well, I think the render is useful to see the overall shape of the car, how the rear will be shaped, the glasshouse, and the character line. The execution will be key. The G01 renders by Autobild were spot on but made the car look so plain and stupid. The real deal looks so much better.

The shape of the boot and it's cutlines look like a big disaster to me. And the sad thing is, it's already visible in the spy shots. The render you posted is correct on the main ideas I believe.

I hope it works out in the end. Gotta have faith!

It looks like the Bangle butt. Or is it the camouflage on top of the trunk?

Most of it is camo. Maybe even the whole C pillar and rear window.

But it reminds of a Bangle Butt indeed, and they are actively making us believe exactly that, including (hopefully fake) boot shutline. And an incorrect boot shutline is as disturbing as an ugly hood shutline btw. For me it's a bit of a disorder though.
