A3/S3/RS3 2013 Audi S3 - Spypics & info

The Audi A3 is a small family car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by Audi AG since September 1996. The first two generations of the Audi A3 were based on the Volkswagen Group A platform, while the third and fourth generations use the Volkswagen Group MQB platform.
The new S3 is likely to have considerlably more than 280 bhp, Merc will be tuning its 2 litre engine to around 340 bhp.

^If you remove the difference in performance from the equation then I agree with you in the same way as a A3 2.0TDI is its rival because they both roughly the same shape and size and can carry the same number of people because if you remove the performance then what are you basically comparing?

If you say price will be similar then dozens of cars can fit that criteria but won't necessarily compete on performance either.

Are we really arguing about this again. M135i vs S3, there are no other Audi options. S3 is hardly a 2.0tdi.

There isn't an RS6 at the moment so are you suggesting that the S6 should be used to compare against the M5 or E63?

Similar scenario don't you think?

Its S3. Stop fooling yourselves. Only reasons we have this discussion is because you guys think it will be humiliated by M135i. Have some faith people.

Wait for the premiere, perhaps 40hp less S3 will kill M135i. Power is not everything. It would be a huge shame for the M135i.

Just_me, tell me this. What was the old S3's rival before the M135i came into being, answer the normal 135i so why should anything change?

After all what you are asking is for a similarly weighted car with only a 2.0L engine with a turbo to kick the butt of another with a 3.0L engine. Tall order in my opinion for it to be achieved then something would have to give and that will probably be turbo lag.

What is wrong with you, if an Audi is not competitive with a BMW, it is not competing with it. Period. Screw price, model type everything. BMW and their transverse layout that allows a stupidly large 3.0l turbo engine in a smallish hatchback...WTH.

BMW 130i, same poweroutput as Audi S3.

Doesnt matter what happen in the past. M135i is here to compete with S3 and next 1M to compete with the upcoming RS3 (just like today). Nothing have changed. Its still like this S3 vs M135i. RS3 vs 1M. Certain people think its correct to compare 335i with S4.

Im not going to continue this discussion when you clearly are wrong. Once again only reason why 2 members dont like to see S3 to compete with M135i is becuase you think it will be humiliated by the 'ugly' bmw. Its obvious (no offense).

The new Audi S3 is undergoing its final stages of testing before being officially revealed to the world at the Paris motor show in September.
Front-end revisions include additional bumper vents and dark grilles replacing the chrome items on the standard A3. Deeper side skirts and an integrated rear diffuser will be offered. Bespoke alloy wheels measure 18 inches in diameter, and will be shod with 225/40 tyres.
These pictures also show the S3 will feature twin exhausts on each side – a trademark of Audi’s S models – for the first time.
The third-generation S3 will be powered by a version of the VW Group’s turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine, rather than the 2.5-litre five-pot found in the RS3 Sportback. No official announcements have been made regarding power output, but insiders suggest 276bhp and 280lb ft is possible.
Audi has targeted a 0-62mph time of 5.5sec – 0.2sec less than the outgoing model – and a top speed of 155mph.
A six-speed manual will be fitted as standard, with a seven-speed automatic appearing on the options list.
The S3 will be offered initially as a three-door only, and will be followed by a five-door Sportback variant. An S3 saloon is slated for launch sometime later, although it is unclear whether it will come to the UK.

Lets hope it gets a better bodykit though.

If you go by past history then the answer is no which is OK with me because S models aren't there to shout about their potential since that's the job of the RS. I just hope it's quick enough.

300 ps for S3 plus?

Interesting, either my brain has went into meltdown but I can't recall there being a plus version of an S model before. Maybe two versions are offered for different markets?

300hp might make for an interesting comparison with the brilliant M135i.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
