Quattro/S2 Audi unveils the legendary Quattro's successor at the 2013 IAA

Design bosses at Audi reveal what the new Audi Quattro could entail

The reborn Audi Quattro could make production, but bosses haven’t decided whether it’ll be based on the Sport Quattro concept from the Frankfurt Motor Show or the original Quattro concept from the 2010 Paris show.
Frankfurt Motor Show 2013
According to Wolfgang Egger, head of Audi design, both are possible: "With every design concept we do we are thinking about everything becoming reality”. Referring to the concepts Egger said: “We have done one (designed for MQB platform) and now we have done the other (on larger MLB platform) so now we need to make a decision.”
Both used wildly different powertrains, with the original car powered by the 2.5-litre turbocharged engine from the TT RS. The Sport Quattro uses a 552bhp twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 from the RS6, combined with a 147bhp electric motor.
Whatever happens Egger said that the Sport Quattro will influence the next-generation of Audi sports cars. According to Egger we should look out for “the C-pillar, the sexy blisters on the wheelarches and the interesting front”.
Element of the interior, too, will be used in future Audis. Egger said: “We wanted to clean up the interior by removing buttons and functions. It is a complete reduction, designed to make it feel lightweight.”

So they havent decided yet??? Praise the Lord!!!
I thought the 2010 concept was dead! Now all the automobile fans from around the world have to write to Audi and push them for the first concept, and so that yellow big phat pig never ever is shown to public.

Oh.. don't be so harsh on that lovely yellow piggy ;)
They both look great. I think that they should make both cars. First the Quattro based on the 2010 concept, and later this Sport Quattro.
Just make it lighter (not more than 1600-1700kg) and DON'T call it Sport Quattro or Quattro. I don't know.. maybe something like Audi Coupe quattro? Anyway it shouldn't be named after the great original Sport Quattro.

Doesn't this sound a lot like the agreement about another classic icon... cough, cough M1. ;)

Weight is the biggest complaint anyone can really level at this car, not it's spec or styling which are stunning. Make it 150Kgs lighter and perform like the GTR and I doubt too many would complain.

Most people don't know what this car is suppose to be, and most people think the styling is a backward step compare to the first concept. Audi has the R8 already, so what is this new version of Quttaro suppose to be?

No they don't to me. This new concept is very close to the original in terms of design.

And the new headlights are prettier than the old ones, imo (that's the biggest change I see quite frankly)

You are right Audi does have the R8 which is a TWO seater sportscar unlike this latest concept which is a FOUR seater. The biggest problem I see is the original concept was closer in spirit to the classic Quattro where as this one is a techno overload beast of brute power.

If you bother to read my posts I have pointed this out a few pages ago, but never mind. Audi has the RS5 as well so they have got this covered.

Exactly. That should be the biggest change.

And of course, those lights are hideous. Give them back to BMW!

I agree it is a 'heavy pig' but it is actually on par with the GT-R, which I think is the point. However this car adds all the Audi-ness AND 150+hp to that rig...

And I see this car as an UBER RS5 is all. Which is fine by me actually. MAYBE almost like a C63 Black/M3 GTS competitor?

Lets see how they price this car.

It is said to be in the low $100k range...

And how it would compare;
- Audi Quattro - From $100k-$120k - 700hp - 4,072 lbs - Quattro AWD - 7-Speed DCT - 2+2 Coupe
- C63 Black - From Appx. $110k - 510hp - Appx. 3,800 lbs - RWD - 7-Speed Auto - 2+2/2-Seat Coupe
- M3 GTS - From Appx. $120k - 444hp - Appx. 3,600 lbs - RWD - 7-Speed DCT - 2-Seat
- GT-R/Black/Track - From $100k/$110k/$115k - 545hp - Appx. 3,900 lbs - AWD - 7-Speed DCT - 2+2 Coupe/2-Seat Coupe
- 911 S/4S - From $105k - 400hp - Appx. 3,200 lbs - RWD/RWD - 7MT/PDK - 2+2 Coupe
- 911 Turbo - From $150k - 520hp - Appx. 3,400 lbs - AWD - 7-Speed PDK - 2+2 Coupe

I think THAT is where this Audi Quattro is going to fit in.

And I expect Audi to 'detune' the motor for production by revising the use of a hybrid drivetrain and get the weight under 4,000 lbs in doing so. Even with 'just' the 4.0T V8 under the hood with 520-560hp, it would be competitive in that group and no batterieis/hybrid would save several hundred pounds.

Like this maybe;
- Audi Quattro - 560hp - 3,850 lbs - 6.8 lbs/hp
- C63 Black - 510hp - 3,800 lbs - 7.5 lbs/hp
- M3 GTS - 444hp - 3,600 lbs - 8.1 lbs/hp
- GT-R - 545hp - 3,850 lbs - 7.0 lbs/hp
- 911 4S - 400hp - 3,250 lbs - 8.1 lbs/hp
- 911 Turbo - 520hp - 3,400 lbs - 6.5 lbs/hp

All in the $100k-$150k range...

And as it is now;
- Audi Quattro Concept - 700hp - 4,072 lbs - 5.8 lbs/hp

I don't think that is a bad place to be personally. The older concept would have cost $250k+ to bring to market, so...

I don't think you should be comparing RS5 with this, combined elec & engine output 700hp vs 450hp. Maybe this is Audi showing a possible future or simply showcasing what it's capable of.

Not too "off subject":

In the current issue of Autobild, there is a rather scathing editorial by Stefan Voswinkel on page 37 regarding Audis' recent lack of vision. He surmises that Audi is on the verge of losing its' mojo. Lacking inventiveness, fresh ideas and compelling concepts. He concludes his article with the quote: "Audi, quo vadis ?".

I regret to make the admission that I quite agree.

This concept will cost wayyyyy over 100k and I haven't come across anyone that actually like it to the point where they would buy one

The only configuration that makes sense in both a business and a marketing way so as what appeals more to customers is the Quattro powered by the 2.5 TFSI using A4/A5 chassis/tech without hybrid. If Audi want a "hypercar" they better bring a hybrid R10/R12 TDI alla LeMans. They can use the 918 Spyder, if Porsche allows, why not in 4 years.

It is said to be in the low $100k range. Considering it is based on an A5 using an existing 4.0T motor, it makes sense all things considered.

Figure a GT-R competitor...

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
