S-Class (W223) Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W223) Facelift 2024

The Mercedes-Benz W223 is the seventh generation of the S‑Class full-size luxury sedan, produced by Mercedes-Benz since 2020. It replaces the W222 S‑Class which had been produced since 2013.
The interior has no individual identity at all now…it’s largely a parts bin exercise, shame. Not sure what to think.

Merc1 Don't worry, my friend, the 2030 S-Class with its new design will feature lots of wood and a stunning console.

I have my doubts though - from what we’ve seen to-date, once an automaker is on the large screen/passenger screen trend, there has been no real effort to revert to reduced the space taken since it’s “supposedly” what customers have asked for. It’s also cheaper to integrate than wood & high quality materials.

Easy, the brand is at its lowest point in decades. I got quoted in awe by some of the most committed MB followers here for saying this in the recent past.

Also, does the W214 not have the same augmented reality HUD? I’m wondering why the large dashboard crater is still present in the FL S Class after 6 years. I thought that’d be one of the primary interior design points to address.

This interior is a massive disappointment and almost a boring copy of the E-class. The superscreen with the thin vents just cheapens the interior to a higher level than the Pre-FL, which at least has unique vertical metallic vent controls and a delicious wood strip on the passenger side.

Why didnt they use the new screen design from the GLC with the metallic vents? it looks so much better than this.

This facelift was designed ages ago, it's just been heavily delayed.

Is there any reason for real hope regarding the W224?

Why wouldn't there be? Gorden went through the revolutionary W222, then an evolutionary W223, why does it have to be that the W224 is just going to a further evolution? It's not going to be a warmed over W223.

The grille for the GLC was a relatively last minute addition, but the movement to make the Mercedes "look" more prominent for the next generation was borne out of the same time the W224's design was frozen. The S-class will continue to lead the way and I don't think it's fair to just assume we're getting more of the same for Mercedes' next generation of products.

What you're seeing now with the S-class facelift was the result of thinking that was locked in years ago, which is why it more or less looks like the E-class setup. The only reason the facelift S-class is late is because they made the decision to pack it with the latest tech you're seeing on the GLC electric infotainment and others. It was originally slated to make do with older tech for the rest of its tenure.

Its still probably 3-5 years out, so there's time for design to be tweaked still.

The new design chief could tweak some of it, but all approvals have already been completed for that car.

If you play music with a decent sound system and 10-12 inch subwoofer, the acoustics will reveal low quality panels. This is why car manufacturers don’t like fitting cars with premium systems.

You end up having to resolve, rattles, change materials in some places but also add lots of sound deadening in doors, on the floor and wheel arches. All the avoid music sounding like someone singing into an empty Tupperware or mixing bowl. Try singing into one with your mouth inside it.

Very true!

I've seen various reports of current B10 owners hearing rattles from their doors on Bang & Olufsen systems (though arguably, the new B&O doesn't sound particularly great either)
