A3/S3/RS3 2013 Audi S3 - Spypics & info

The Audi A3 is a small family car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by Audi AG since September 1996. The first two generations of the Audi A3 were based on the Volkswagen Group A platform, while the third and fourth generations use the Volkswagen Group MQB platform.
This is strange. Rather, the name should be "plus". Perhaps a more powerful version of the U.S. market. I hope not.

I wonder the how much the S3 will weigh.

Maybe one of those codes are reserved for the TDI engine, and the s3 could get a diesel variant as well, but I'm not too sure either.

^I like your thinking though I doubt they could pull 280hp out of a 2.0L diesel and getting to meet all the regulations required for production.

Though I don't doubt a diesel version is on the cards because the word is Audi intend to offer a diesel S in all ranges eventually.

What Audi need to do and haven't done in the past is lighten it's most performance orientated models, a bit with the S and a lot with the RS.

I'm curious about the price. Current S3 cost just as much as M135i here in Sweden. So I doubt the new one is getting cheaper.

No sure if it increased much over the out going model though usually standard kit increases to cover any small price hike. Can't believe it will be cheaper than the M135i though, that car represents unbelieveable value in all markets.

Audi A3 Sportback and S3 set for Paris debut

Audi is just one month away from revealing the next two additions to the new Audi A3 line-up: the A3 Sportback and the S3.
Don’t be fooled by the heavier disguise of the A3 Sportback compared with the S3. Both are due to launch at the Paris motor show next month before going on sale in the UK around the turn of the year.
The Sportback - the
five-door version of the new
A3 - sits on a 2640mm wheelbase, insiders have revealed. That’s 39mm longer than the three-door car’s and should result in a noticeable increase in rear legroom.
Aside from the extra doors, visual changes for the Sportback over the three-door are minimal but include a third side window and roof rails.
Spy pictures of the S3 reveal its twin exhausts, bodykit (including diffuser) and 18-inch alloy wheels. Under the bonnet is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 276bhp. Expect a 0-62mph time of around 5.5sec

Both A3 Sportback and S3? That would be lovely! Shorter wait for the RS3...hopefully!

276hp, begs the question where does the 300hp version fit in?

@Tumbo, I think we all can agree that this next RS3 wont wait until the end of its production cycle, personally I'm expecting/hoping 2014 some time.

Rooting for 300 hp for the Euro version, and 280 for the Australian. Would fall nicely in line with the situation for the old S3, where the Australian version was lower powered.

Honestly, the M135i would make less than 300 look very odd. And I'm saying this as a former happy s3 owner.

We got the lower power output version because of our supposedly hotter climate down under. It was a unusual reason because BMW never had this problem with getting their turbo charged cars to work in the Australian market.

But that's BMW they always do everything better. lol

Joking aside, has someone dynoed an S3 to see if it's output was indeed less than Europe?

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
