German news weekly Focus has smugly nicknamed the concept, loosely translated, "Dr. Winterkorns' Revenge".

It is reported that the car rides on the Audi-designed MLBEvo matrix (as will the next A4-through-A8 series of cars) and is an accurate indication of what to expect regarding the series II Phaeton.

Should the design of the concept be translated accurately, the next Phaeton should be a far more successful commercial endeavor than the current car.

I find it highly attractive. And a cleverly placed public relations reply to BMWs' new G11/G12 7 series.

This is real german teutonic design:love:

Of course, only my personal opinion:

This would be, should it actually come to fruition as a production vehicle, the most visually appealing luxury sedan available. In terms of its' exterior as well as its' interior. LOL, I am admittedly a sucker for the precise, razor-edged, minimalistic school of design (unless we're talking Porsche 911-which is deliciously "organic minimalistic"). And shapely notchbacks with highly raked C-pillars. According to the VW-Groups' chairman of design, Walter de Silva, "coupe-like" rooflines will become increasingly commonplace on mid-sized-to-large VW-Group sedans.

I am hoping that VW walks the talk on this one. They can arguably stand accused of presenting many enticing concepts that never reached production.

This thing looks f#cking gorgeous. Even better than the A8 renders (based on Prologue). Should it go into production VW has a winner. Please build it. And since we're talking about concepts that need to be build. Please Cadillac build the damn Elmiraj

Looks good, but what's the difference between this and the concept shown in Geneva?

Actually, more than a few.

The C Coupe GTE Concept is based on the MLBEvo (longitudal) matrix, as opposed to the Geneva concepts' MQB (transversal) underpinnings. Also, the C Coupe GTE concept is a substantially larger automobile.

Alas, EU customers should eventually be seeing a successor to the current CC that closely resembles the smaller Geneva concept. But the truly gorgeous Shanghai concept is rumored to be a "Chinese market only" car. I find that a big pity. And I hope that the VW board reconsiders.

VW could teach Cadillac a thing or two about infotainment integration. Well-integrated in the centre console, artfully done in the rear seats.

One element that I find especially attractive is the "long hood, short front overhang" theme exemplified so well on the VW C Coupe GTE. Far more convincing than what is seen on the Audi Prologue concept cars. It clearly shows the possibilities of the MLBEvo platform.

And this begs the question: Are the Prologue concepts actually MLBEvo cars ? Or has Audi used the older MLB.1 (current A8) for the concepts ? Automotive press reports have been conflicting.

As Jimmy has stated the C Coupé GTE concept is a China market only car based on MLB evo (the first VW to receive the matrix). It will be launched in China in 2016 and manufactured by Shanghai Volkswagen.

The Sport Coupé GTE shown in Geneva is to break from the B segment and enter into the C segment (according to the press release). In other words the next CC will be like an A5 Sportback but move up a segment to position itself further between the Passat and Phaeton in Europe, America and ROW markets including China.

The next CC (Sport Coupé GTE) will be manufactured by FAW Volkswagen for the Chinese market so each JV will have and entrant in the C segment with the German made Phaeton taking on the D segment.

I agree that the C Coupé GTE concept otherwise known as EA511/ C-511 should be potentially a global market car, time will tell.

FYI the Shanghai Volkswagen engineered Passat made it to the USA so anything is possible!

This new design language from VW is certainly interesting, but I'm not really a fan of it.

I saw the new Passat in real life and it doesn't look as sharp as in the photos to me.

That fold in the sheetmetal (it's too deep to be called a crease) masquerading as a swage line is interesting but ultimately unfeasible. Imagine how it will collect dirt and grime? Like toe jam but for cars. Yuck. :wtf:

I'm not moved by it much either. It certainly is photogenic .....but there is nothing new about this sharp-edge styling .....it's been popular for a decade.

It is a fundamentally very nicely proportioned automobile. But as a fleet-managers' darling, it has become ubiquitous in Variant form, more basic spec and almost always in some greyish or black paint.

But I very recently saw a showroom example of a brownish-grey metallic sedan, R-Line trim ,19" wheels and otherwise loaded. Very nice indeed. But price-wise, too close to a nicely appointed Audi A6 (or BMW 5er/M-B E-Class) to really make it a viable proposition.

It's the same problem with latest "sharp-as-a-razor" VW styling: it looks sharp in brushed photos and under artificial studio lighting. But borderline dull and boring in real life. Latest Golf Sportvan is a great example of that. Looking super sharp in pics but utterly unimpressive IRL. Vice versa with 2er AT or B-class. Looking better IRL than in pics. Yet VW styling is for sure more photogenic.

Now I know you're taking the piss here, the 2er AT is not much better looking than a Ponitac Aztec or Ssanysong Actyon. It's without a doubt the ugliest car to ever come out of Germany, that includes some of the wonders made in the old Communist East. The Golf SV and B Class are no lookers either but they do not descend to the depths BMW plunged with the AT.

Its an interesting car visually but when browsing with a member from our design department they seemed to think that its very Volvo-esque like the old S60 but flatter and larger.VW design is actually becoming more style-led and visually ahead than Audi which should be the pinnacle VAG brand for design. The prologue series just does not offer anything revolutionary or visually As the colleague stated its more a less the preview for the next A6 models.
