Its an interesting car visually but when browsing with a member from our design department they seemed to think that its very Volvo-esque like the old S60 but flatter and larger.VW design is actually becoming more style-led and visually ahead than Audi which should be the pinnacle VAG brand for design. The prologue series just does not offer anything revolutionary or visually As the colleague stated its more a less the preview for the next A6 models.
But typical of VAG, Audi design is moving in the exact same direction ....it all looks heavily influenced by Zaha Hadid's design concepts from two decades ago. BMW was the first to so obviously take inspiration from contemporary architecture ......Hadid has been a favourite because her dynamic shapes and forms translate well into automotive design.

Anyhow, here's a video .....I think it looks really good.

Volkswagen C Coupe GTE concept at Auto Shanghai 2015

Due in 2016
Volkswagen has announced the C Coupe GTE concept will morph into a production version next year, but only for the Chinese market.

Currently on display at Auto Shanghai, the sleek VW C Coupe GTE is about to hit the assembly line in China where it will act as Volkswagen's flagship low-emission model as it will be available exclusively with a plug-in hybrid setup. It will be one of the 15 alternatively-powered vehicles from VAG to be locally-produced and sold in China, alongside the Passat GTE and the Audi A6 L e-tron. Moreover, the imported Golf GTE will also join the range sometime in 2016.

Details about the hardware setup for the production-ready C Coupe GTE are not available at this point, but we remind you the concept combines a four-cylinder TSI engine with an electric motor built into the 8-speed automatic transmission. It has a combined output of 245 PS (180 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) which enables the vehicle to run the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 8.6 seconds before topping out at 144 mph (232 km/h).

More importantly, the MLB platform-based C Coupe GTE has a fuel consumption of only 2.3 liters / 100 km (102.2 mpg US or 122.8 mpg UK) and can be driven in electric mode for up to 31 miles (50 km). When used as a hybrid, the concept can provide a maximum range of 497 miles (800 km).

VW’s C Coupe GTE Study looks good as an Estate too

As we learned from a recent report that cited a VW official, VW’s C Coupe GTE study unveiled last month at the Shanghai Auto Show previews a flagship plug-in hybrid vehicle for China.
C Coupe GTE concept into an estate.

As usual, the renderings look really impressive and give us the confirmation that the VW study would be a looker even as an estate. Still, it will not become real since wagons are not that popular in China, where the production version of the C Coupe GTE will be sold.

Volkswagen GTE Sport imagines hot hatch hybridization
It's less a concept for a future model, and more of a thought experiment about what a hybrid, sporty Golf variant could be when regulations get really serious.

Volkswagen used the annual Wörthersee gathering—it's branched out from its roots as a festival of GTI nerds to encompass many more of the VW Group's brands—to present to the world its concept of the ultimate high-performance hybrid Golf. Witness the Golf GTE Sport, with two seats, a drivetrain sporting a rally-bred turbo engine and two electric motors, and C-pillars that drive the engineers wild.

The big deal about those pillars, aside from their normal duty upholding the roof and defining the rear hatch opening, is their flying-buttress design, sitting proud of the passenger compartment. A continuation of a design theme first seen on the 2007 Golf GTI W12-650 concept, and somewhat akin to the upcoming Ford GT, these floating pillars serve to send airflow to aerodynamic features and cooling ducts for the rear brakes.

Those best-in-class pillars, and indeed nearly the entire body of the Golf GTE Concept, are constructed from today's wonder material, carbon fiber—allowing significant weight savings over a similarly sized steel body and creating contrasting panels of unfinished weave pattern alongside the pearlescent White Club finish. And while the styling shows a strong family resemblance to VW's traditional hatchbacks, this is an entirely different beast: The concept is a few inches shorter from stem to stern, roughly two inches wider, and a full nine inches lower than the 2015 Golf you see on the streets.

As wild as it is on the outside, the Golf GTE Sport's interior takes things even further into sci-fi land. Through the two-passenger speedster's gullwing doors—with openings that extend deep into the roof, GT40-style—you'll find a dual-binnacle cockpit with a carbon-fiber bulkhead splitting driver from passenger. Once belted into the five-point harness, the driver faces a Knight Rider–esque butterfly steering wheel. Three transparent display surfaces indicate charge status, gear selection, power delivery, speed, range, and for on-track excursions, a virtual readout showing the ideal racing line. Yes, VW envisions this taut hatchmobile as a machine that's "at home in both normal road traffic and racetrack conditions."

As in the production Golf GTE, the drivetrain starts with a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder—but then it goes off the rails from there. The concept's version of the engine is cribbed from the Polo R WRC racer, feeding 295 horses into a six-speed DSG gearbox and on to the front wheels. The gasoline-fueled output is boosted by two electric motors—one that adds 113 horses and more than 240 lb-ft to the front axle, and one that feeds 113 horses and a burly 200 lb-ft of torque to the rear.

That all adds up to nearly 500 lb-ft of torque delivered to all four wheels, using the same "electric driveshaft" function we last saw in VW's Sport Coupe Concept GTE, uh, concept. When full acceleration is demanded, the electric motor in the front driveline becomes a generator that sends engine-generated electricity to the rear-axle motor. All-wheel drive, no mechanical connection required.

That also means that VW's concept hatchy-thing is a plug-in hybrid. The automaker says the concept could traverse a smidge over 31 miles on electric-only power, and achieve nearly 118 mpg under Europe's supremely optimistic plug-in-hybrid test cycle. Foot to the floor, you'd likely get way, way less fuel mileage, but VW says you'd be capable of a 0-to-62-mph time of just 4.3 seconds and a top speed of around 174 mph. A fighter-jet-style, roof-mounted switch selects between "E-Mode," "Hybrid Mode," or the high-performance "GTE-Mode," which brings up a lap counter on the dashboard. Should things get too hot, an onboard fire-suppression system makes sure you don't get overcooked.

Don't expect the GTE Sport to hit your VW dealership anytime soon, of course. It's a concept—but it's safe to say that at least the drivetrain details give a glimpse at what Volkswagen has up its sleeve for the near future. Europe's newly stringent emissions and fuel-economy requirements heavily favor plug-in hybrids, with their zero-emissions capability for the short commutes that make up most of the average driver's miles. And the details of the GTE drivetrain in this concept coincide with a slew of recent VW design daydreams. The styling may be a one-off, but the motivation beneath the Golf GTE Sport is likely to be realized in production form soon enough. But maybe don't hold your breath for those earth-shattering C-pillars.

The latest issue of Germanys' Auto Motor und Sport features a large segment on future VW-Group products. According to the magazine, the upcoming VW Phaeton successor will be very similar to the Shanghai C Coupe GTE large car concept with regard to exterior and interior design. The production car should feature conventional door handles, an only slightly more upright roofline and a rear bumper mounted registration plate area. It will also feature a weight reduction of some 200kg versus the current model.

Other tidbits from the article: Apparently, it has been decided that the upcoming Porsche Panamera II will evolve into a lineup including a 2+2 2 door coupe. And the upcoming VW CC will be positioned between the new Passat and the upcoming Phaeton II-in terms of dimensions, content and price.

Speculation regarding restructuring of the group indicate an even closer cooperation between Audi, Bentley, Porsche and Lamborghini-with a higher degree of differentiation from the more pedestrian group brands. This appears to indicate that Audi will be attempting to distance itself a bit more from the VW brand-perhaps offering a decidedly "more sporting, more athletic character" vis-a-vis sibling VW.

Prototype for what’s clearly a large sedan but we’re not talking about the next-generation Phaeton. The German automaker recently confirmed that its new Phaeton will only arrive at the end of the decade, so what might we be looking at here? According to our source, the prototype is for a production version of 2015’s C Coupe GTE concept car.

The C Coupe GTE was a large sedan with coupe-like proportions and plug-in hybrid power. It was based on the MLB platform used in several contemporary Audis and was meant to preview the design of several upcoming VW models like the next-generation CC and Phaeton. Now it looks like the concept is headed for production.

Before you get too excited, our source tells us the car is destined for the Chinese market only, where it will likely be called a Hui Dao. Production is expected to take place at a plant in Changchun, in China’s Jilin Province. The plant is operated by a joint venture between VW and state-owned Chinese automaker FAW.

Large sedans still sell in significant numbers in China and for VW it’s important to offer a sedan larger than the Passat, at least until the new Phaeton arrives. Compared to the C Coupe GTE, this production model looks more like a conventional three-box sedan but is still very low and wide at the front. It should be just as handsome as the concept.

It’s not clear what powertrains will be offered but we can expect the plug-in hybrid setup of the C Coupe GTE to be among the lineup. It consisted of a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a single electric motor sandwiched between the engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Peak output of the system was 241 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, with drive going to the front wheels only. The electric-only range was 31 miles—enough to qualify for China’s “New Energy Vehicle” regulations and the associated incentives.

Look for a debut at a major Chinese auto show late this year or early next year.
