Those LED headlights look really good...

If it ends up looking like the photoshop images I reckon VW are on to a winner and I see nothing wrong with its proportions. In fact if you see bad proportions look at a 407, now that is nose heavy looking.

Call me crazy, but these latest spy pics have given me hope. I think it looks much better than the current one which is not a diffciult task, to be honest.

@C4L if you look carefully those are 2 different cars... Check the interior photos of the production NMC.

Sad reminder that Volkswagen design needs to be more differentiated.

I like it.

Should this be an accurate reflection of the EU market B8 Passat, perhaps VW will be able to sell far more Passat sedans in the future. Currently, 75% of the Passats sold in Europe are Variants.

The Chinese Magotan is the European Passat with a different badge so I do not see much change between their successors. The leaked car confirms the renders and spyshots. So another Passat -reliable , competitive but boring.

Next-gen Volkswagen Passat to lose up to 85 kg, will be revealed on July 3

Will be 2mm shorter

New details have surfaced the web concerning the next generation Volkswagen Passat which will allegedly be revealed online on July 3.

Earlier this week several sketches of the new Passat emerged along with comprehensive details about the powertrain options and now British media has managed to find out more technical characteristics of what Volkswagen promises to set a "new benchmark in this segment."

It will ride on a stretched version of the MQB platform and will be up to 85 kg (188 lbs) lighter than the model it replaces thanks to the use of high-strength vacuum-formed steels. Despite being 2mm shorter, the wheelbase will be elongated and will enable the new Passat to offer a 33mm increased passenger area. Other changes include 10mm lower front seats, an extra 26mm of rear headroom, while the trunk size of the wagon will increase by 47 liters to 650 liters.

The German midsize sedan is said to receive an updated electronic tailgate and for voluminous cargo the rear bench will have a 40:20:40-split configuration and there will also be a dual-level trunk floor as well as a section on runners for sliding back heavy boxes. Sliding the front passenger seat forward will enable carrying cargo of up to 2.85 meters long.

As far as technology is concerned, expect full LED headlights and taillights, numerous driver assistance systems, updated progressive steering and a configurable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster sourced from the new TT. The all-new Passat will be available as a sedan and wagon at first but the range will be extended with a CC four-door coupe, a rugged Alltrack wagon and possibly a CC shooting brake.

Following its online reveal on July 3, the model will be shown in public at the Paris Motor Show in October and is set to go on sale in the final quarter of the year.

EU-based fleet operators will love it. Especially in Variant form.

As for myself... I'm quite curious about the CCs' successor.
