M8 [Video reviews] BMW 8er/M8 Coupe, Cabriolet and GranCoupe (G14/G15/G16)

The BMW M8 is the high-performance version of the BMW 8 Series (G15) marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. Introduced in June 2019, the M8 was initially produced in the 2-door convertible (F91 model code) and 2-door coupe (F92 model code) body styles. A 4-door sedan (F93 model code, marketed as 'Gran Coupe') body style was added to the lineup in October 2019. The M8 is powered by the BMW S63 twin-turbocharged V8 engine shared with the BMW M5 (F90). Official website: BMW M
I believe the M5CP is the pre OPF hence is has more crackles and burbles than the M8CP if you go to Joe Achilles channel he has the same M5 on test and mentions this.

It’s going to be another good year of being a BMW fan , the M8 is going to be one of standout performance cars. You do get extra performance for your money.

Curios to know how much more power the M8 is putting down than advertised.

Did read the test a moment ago... the M8 CP in this "supertest" had been tested with 622 hp/786 Nm.
Official numbers of BMW are 625 hp/750 Nm.
So - no special selected press car - even more impressive numbers!

Some citings from sportscars supertest translated:

What does this M8 Competition actually represent? A Coupe? A Gran Tourismo? A super sportscar? Well, "super sportscoupe" that's pretty much it.

BMW had amazed us again: The Sachsenring laptime of 1:31,77 does not fit to a 1,9 to coupe on street tires somhehow ... but that's camouflage, the M8 Competition is a cleverly disguised supersportscar!

I'm baffled why a car manufacturer which has aboslutely no connection with an individual can influence their year. o_O I would understand, to some extent at least, if they were in the market to buy such cars, but I've yet to see any evidence that they're even old enough to drive. So this is living vicariously through YouTube. Bizarre!

M8 comp 2020 is slower than M6 comp 2013.
They didn't publish acceleration to 300 because F92 Euro6d can't do numbers of M6 F13 Euro5
M8 - 100-250 - 14.4s
M6 - 100-250 - 13.5s
Don't try to tell me that they tested a special press car with more hp. I bought brand new m6 in 2013. I achived similar times like Autobild Sportscars 12/2013

C'mon @Betty Swollocks … it's getting a bit tiresome to follow your ongoing skirmish with @hovabongZA, @SCOTT27 and (to some extent) @nikola1984 here … why can't you just ignore them? They do not attack you … but you seemingly can't stop those side blows all the time :(
At least I like @hovabongZA 's honestly here! He openheartedly admits, that he is a BMW fan. Many contributers in this forum won't even admit, that they are a "fan" of some brand, although everyone notices it and most of the time, when they are "attacking" a competing brand ...

I also do not get, why you are not accepting, that someone is a fan of a brand, which produces highly desirable, cool and complex technical products? Even if he might not be able to afford the entire range of this brand (although I don't even know, what knowledge you have about e.g. hovabongs background)?
Is it more ok to be a fan of a soccer club, even if I am not athletic at all and can't play soccer myself? Tbh - this "logic" I can't really follow …

Does it make you wonder? I think you already presented the facts!
F9x basically has the same engine as the F1x M cars? A TU4 version vs. a TU2 version of the S63? And like you said: F9x is handicapped with OPF and stuff - would be interessting to see the difference between OPF and Non-OPF F9x?
You are expecially looking at the high-speed acceleration Performance (above 100 km/h), where the F9x benefit of AWD is rather a disadvantage!
So everyhing as expected, isn't it? On the other hand you have to admit, that it is a remarkable achievement, that the F9x has (although having AWD, much stiffer chassis, more addons, …) does weight the same as the F1x M6 but is e.g. at Sachsenring 5 seconds faster which is "Worlds apart"!

Couple years ago M6 was a very fast GT. Now M8 is very fast but in drag race only. You don't have any chance in rolling race on autobahn.
I doubt that M8 will chance to fight with incoming 992 Turbo S 650ps on autobahn. M6 Euro5 was very fast and could do fight with 991.1 Turbo S in rolling race.
Maybe they will do CS version with more power than comp version

I just found a test where it took 35,1 seconds to 300 km/h (Autobild March 2016).

There was a thread on the M6 forums ages ago referencing the fact that the 30,4 seconds was an anomaly which was never repeated again.

There is always one, which is faster :p
911 turbos are indeed insanely fast! They have comparably good aerodynamics (a small front area) … but hands down … how often do you encounter a 911 turbo on german autobahn, which also is eager to go "all in" … let alone that traffic allows this!?
And if you are such a high speed junkie: Wouldn't you invest at least in downpipes and software tunes? I think there are already F9x on the street with nearly 800hp even without upgrade turbos … so tuning potential on the 4.4 V8 is huge.

It was M6 Euro6 in autobild sportcars 03/2016, not Euro5. As I just said. My previous M6 Euro5 2013 stock did numbers like car from autobild sportcars 12/2013

I just can't understand how a 4,076 lb car with 575 hp can achieve a 0-300 time of 30,4 seconds when a 580 hp ~ 3,550 lb Porsche 991.2 Turbo S and a 577 hp 3,600 lb AMG GTR (both weighing ~ 500 lbs less) can do it in 29,6 and 31,6 seconds respectively.

Are these your times? 0-200 in 7,03 seconds? Ok. I see it now. 100-200. Disregard.

Yes. I did it

They did worse 100-200 time beacuse they started from 0 not roll
100-200 - 7.3
200-250 - 6.2
250-300 - 13.0

It's very simple. The BMW company was cheating and gave more hp than offical homologation.
About 632ps than 575ps. But it was Euro5 era. Now they cannot do this.

If German car companies do it, it's called "underrating". It's only considered cheating when everyone else does it:D. Semantics.

I miss the days when German companies were cheating :D It would be great when full stock M8 comp has real 675ps not 622ps like car from autobild sportcars 03/2020

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
