M8 [Video reviews] BMW 8er/M8 Coupe, Cabriolet and GranCoupe (G14/G15/G16)

The BMW M8 is the high-performance version of the BMW 8 Series (G15) marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. Introduced in June 2019, the M8 was initially produced in the 2-door convertible (F91 model code) and 2-door coupe (F92 model code) body styles. A 4-door sedan (F93 model code, marketed as 'Gran Coupe') body style was added to the lineup in October 2019. The M8 is powered by the BMW S63 twin-turbocharged V8 engine shared with the BMW M5 (F90). Official website: BMW M
Looks like only the 1 of 8 will get the yellow DRLs. They do work well against the green. This is a stunning car.

I wanted to discuss this earlier, but never got around it so here we go....

I think the yellow DRLs should return to EVERY BMW. They look great, and EVERY single car these days has bright white LEDs. Going back to yellow for the whole line-up would most certainly set BMW apart again. It's almost comically how easy this would work, how much effect it would have and how noone else has done this or thought about it. Yellow and white are the only options, and every car has white. Set yourself apart again BMW, in the easiest way possible. A no brainer if you ask me.

And the yellow lights do not work well against the green only, it would work well with every possible exterior color.

BMW have always been innovative with their light design, I too would love to see these lights in other BMWs it’s a shame it’s seem to be available only for these 8 special editions. Making them an options for those that want them should be looked at.

This has a very French charm, it moves me to a time and a place, when we only saw cars in magazines (without internet), the french publications were among the best and the photos were to reward them, seeing the german brands with the yellow lights was something special and unique, something I remember with pleasure.

I guess you know it, but a little history doesn't hurt:
"In France, selective yellow was mandatory for all vehicles' road-illumination lamps until 1993.
By 1993 France was forced by the European Union to conform to their standards of safety, thus the going away of the yellow headlights in exchange for compliance of using white headlights. If a French car was first registered prior to 1993 you are able to still have yellow headlights."

"Those who have visited Paris before 1990 or so certainly remember a strange sight at night : all cars used to have deep yellow headlights, high beam and low beam."

I think the yellow DRLs should return to EVERY BMW.

I strongly agree and it would be excellent if they put it as an optional in the whole line

In addition to the various M8's there are other pieces worth seeing in the wild, naturally, those colors in the sun look really good

Given that BMW UK are giving Shmee the only one out of eight allocated to the UK to drive for a few weeks, suggests that no one in the country wanted to buy the car.

I am not surprised though as first editions tends to be highly over specced and over priced. With a list price of £120k i suspect the first edition was priced around £130-140k which is too much to pay for yellow DTRLs. Most crucially the M8 will be worth roughly £35-40k in three years. Basically it's a fools errand to buy the First Edition.

Yes the green colour is cool but you can choose any colour you like through BMW individual.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
