M8 [Video reviews] BMW 8er/M8 Coupe, Cabriolet and GranCoupe (G14/G15/G16)

The BMW M8 is the high-performance version of the BMW 8 Series (G15) marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. Introduced in June 2019, the M8 was initially produced in the 2-door convertible (F91 model code) and 2-door coupe (F92 model code) body styles. A 4-door sedan (F93 model code, marketed as 'Gran Coupe') body style was added to the lineup in October 2019. The M8 is powered by the BMW S63 twin-turbocharged V8 engine shared with the BMW M5 (F90). Official website: BMW M
"Avoid" verdict? I doubt that the fortunate who can afford one will give a flying f#ck about his verdict.
Other journalists have given a similar verdict. The car feels big and is not entertaining at low speeds. Its monstrous performance isn't accessible on public roads.

Lastly the price is eye watering and depreciation shocking. Over 24-36month a more expensive Urus or Continental GT would depreciate less. This is obviously not an issue if money is no object or if you like the M8 GC's very sexy design.

The M8 Coupe and Convertible have been dropped for the 2021 model year in the U.S. The 8-Series in general is grossly overpriced and everyone knows that the car won't be worth shit in 3 years. It's the worst buy in the BMW range. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't so ridiculously overpriced.

Couldn't agree more. In its essence it is a coupe version of the 5er and it should cost 3-4 000 USD/EUR more than the 5er.

As expected, though it's interesting to note the M5 Competition fared better in the 'sport' rolling race than the M8 Comp GC did here against similar rivals. Could be the M8's extra weight or that particular E63 S has had a power bump with the aftermarket exhaust that's been fitted.

That's how all AMG's sounded before regulations. Matt also said E63 has 8 speed auto and it's the lightest lol

Most would've preferred an RS7 in place of the RS6 and a GT63 S 4-door in place of the E63 S wagon. IMO, not likely to have changed much. That M8 is blisteringly quick over the ¼ mile!

What's the bet that the Urus engine (state of tune) will find its way into an RS6/7 Performance one day?

I hope that it happens yesterday, because did you just see the new carwow vid with the Panny, M8, RS6 and E63? My lord the RS6 is such an unbelievable failure, holy shit LOL.

It is ridiculously overpriced. Here, they are trying to charge close to S coupe money for something that sits slightly above the CLS. The market is aware of this fact and no one will buy one without a massive discount. In almost 12 months of ownership I've only seen 2 others on the road. Thank god we can just hand it back after 2 more years and BMW can deal with the residual value shit show.

I lament the decision to buy this car and now firmly wish we had bought the S560 Coupe.

Yeah it's been a flop in the U.S. market, but the sales have picked up now due to heavy discounts. It's a tempting car........at the right (discounted) price.

I'd have another verdict - still avoid the M8 GC, buy instead the M5, even more now that it has been improved, relying according to BMW on M8 tech choices...

My point is that people who can afford the M8 GC Competition won't give a flying blyad' about the Carwow verdict. That's all.

According to their findings, things are not as bad as we thought they were going to be. One key element in this whole equation was the popularity of cars like the BMW X7 and 8 Series, at least according to Nicolas Peter, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Finance. "

“Today, for example, we are benefiting from our strategic focus on the upper luxury segment, a decision we took back in 2016. With the attractive 8 Series models and the BMW X7, we have managed to grow the sales volume of highly profitable models by over 70% since 2018.

Bullshit.
As Daimler, also the BMW Group generate all their profit in China, which is a huge problem. They are not profitable in Europe (sales and production-wise) and they have to squeeze their suppliers for discounts and reduce their workforce, while simultaneously showing good numbers as a company. That, IMHO, will create an unbearable atmosphere inside the company.
Also the dependency on the Chinese market geopolitically puts Germany in a slavery position to China, with the German government being as politically inoffensive and polite as possible. China is just buying the silence of the Germans.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
