Michelin makes the best tires in my experience. For sporty/luxury/heavier cars I don't think they can be beat. Other tires have more grip, but wear too fast. Other don't wear as fast, but feel greasy on the road. When I get a new set (just about every 13-16 months) they feel great.

I use Yokohama AD08 on my M3 and love it - even more than Michelin PS2 OE tires the car came with. This is my second set of Yokos - had AD07 before this and loved it and got it's replacement.

I will probably try Michelin supersport next if they are really all that they are made out to be.

How often do you have to buy tires Sunny?

M

My last set - AV07s lasted about 15k miles - which is more than 2 years for me. The front tires probably would have lasted little longer, but I got a puncture in one of the rear tires, so I decided to change them all anyway. The PS2s were probably about the same, maybe a little longer, but there was even more disparity in the wear between the rear tires and the front tires and the rears were going off really fast.

I should probably add something about the tire's wet weather handling - it is pretty decent in the wet as long as there is no standing water. But if there is standing water, it does tend to hydroplane, but I guess all fat summer performance tires will. In the recent thunderstorm that lashed California, I had a few heart in the mouth moments cause of standing water. But as long you slow down - a lot, it is not too bad.

I replaced my runflats two years ago with non runflats. I read a lot of tire comparisons and there were one tire that won many tests - Goodyear F1 Asymmetric.
Im pleased with them, despite being highperformance tires, they are very good in the wet. This summer l have to replace the rear tires.

Ps we are only allowed to use summer tires between April to November.

Continental's new semi-slick (ForceContact) is already faster on the dry than the Pilot Sport Cup - according to Sport Auto.

They tested an AC Schnitzer M3 and a TechArt 911 Carrera S on the Hockenheimring and as far as I can remember, both was about a second faster on the Conti's. :usa7uh:

My only concern with Contis is their wear rate, from my past experience I found I never got more than 5-6000 mile from a set. Apart from that aspect they were very good.

Personally I like Michelins and Goodyear rubber best.

So far, I have only experience with these 3 tyres:

Pirelli P6000: It was absolutely terrible. It was the stock fit on the Volvo. It was kind of hard, it didn't have enough traction and it didn't last more than 2.5 years each time. Definitely not satisfied. I think it is replaced now.

Michelin Energy and Energy Saver. I have them on a first gen Clio and a Fiat Panda. They may cost a bit more than they should, but they are soft for the city, very quiet, they have descent grip, they warm up faster than the Continentals that were the stock fit of the Panda, and they have great grip under hard braking. Very usefull for cars that are used only in the city.

Michelin Pilot Exalto. I have them on the Volvo for 1.5 year now. They are magnificent. They are very soft, so cruising is great. They filter most road surface bumps and they are very quiet. They have enough grip, yet their only dissadvantage is that you can feel them flexing a little bit before they reach their maximum grip. Yet, they have more grip. The sides are very very soft, and I managed to ruin a tyre in a pothole. Other than that, they last for very very long. I have a friend that has done 85.000kms on a single set of Exaltos and they have still rubber left!

I use Sumitomo HTR Z III on my bmw... great tire, great price. I am very happy with the performance in dry and wet conditions. Noise levels are much lower than the stock Conti that I got the car with.

Yep. When I got my E36 I had Pilot Sports on it. When they wore out, I got Advan. I'm a big fan of those Yokos man, better performance, and for a broke college kid, they lasted me longer.

I change my cars too often to buy tires. Personally and from what I read in magazines i.e. AutoForum I prefer Michelin:t-cheers:

I used to buy nothing but goodyear eagle f1 assymetrics. Good dry and wet grip, good comfort and low road noise with good wear rate. However they arent that good for driving very quickly around bends, the sidewalls are too soft, not giving enough communication to the road. They are also prone to getting bulges in the sidewall easily from hard driving. Superb everyday tyre though.

Michelin ps2,

Cant fault them in the dry or wet, good grip, good wear, havent had a chance to really push them hard yet though.

My next set of tyres will be the michelin super sports

Bridgestone Potenza S-01

That has to be the single most impressive tire ever. Bought my WRX back in 2003 and the Japanese dealer agreed to fit a new set of summer tires FOC before shipping the car as it currently sat on winter tires when I bought it. Well it arrived on Bridgestone's Potenza S-01 in February 2003.

Now here's the interesting part. Fast forward 7 years and 85k kilometers and I finally replaced them in Feb 2010! :eusa_clap

I couldn't believe the mileage I wrung out of that set despite all the stupid stuff I did! Ok, I'm a little anal when it comes to tires. I carry a digital gauge everywhere, check cold tire pressures before the start of every journey (I used the WRX only on the weekends) and gave them a good examination every month or so but I've never gotten so much out of a tire. Ok, a little noisy and excellent at aquaplaning but really impressed. I replaced them with some Contis (cant remember the exact brand) and sold the WRX soon after so no real feedback possible.

Now am closely following some conti seal technology tires on the Passat CC (235/45R17) as I'm hoping to change my Passat TDI for a CC later in the year. The thought of what will literally be a puncture proof tire without turning to run flats is pretty interesting for me...

You're sh!tting me. Most summer tires barely go over 10k miles...My Advans lasted me close to 20K while the Pilot Sports were gone by 11.
