The Official Tire Thread - discuss your tyre experience/suggest a good tire

^ Try Yoko AV08R if you want more dry grip than super sports, but don't want to go to cup 2s (which BTW is much better than previous cups).

I have wheels on order from US and I opted for Michelin PSS. Now I hear they in short supply of rear 305s. Still waiting what "wheels boutique" will have to say.

I was happy with my Goodyear Asymmetric on my BMW. Good in dry and in the wet. They are always doing well in various tests. I probably put them on my ST when the time comes.

I have the Michelin PS3 on my S60 in 205/55R16 dimensions.

It behaves like nothing else I've ever tried on the wet, but its performance on the dry tarmac is not as good. You can certainly feel it bend under heavy steering load, and takes considerable time to warm up. Braking on old/ worn tarmac is not as good as with Bridgestone S002.

All in all, it has quite good performance - the difference with the Michelin Energy Saver and its likes is like day and night - while exhibiting supreme comfort. After all, I've fitted it on a Volvo.

It's the best thing you can fit on a stock Volvo, but I wouldn't recommend it for more sporty applications.

My current car has Pirelli Cinturato P7. I dislike them because of their poor lateral grip. This is especially noticeable during changing surface e.g going over a manhole cover or older tarmac, and during wet conditions.

On my previous car I had Bridgestone T001 which were excellent. Over 12,000 I didn't feel a decrease in in grip and I had full confidence in them whether it was dry, wet or cold.

Bought some new shoes for the car today, Bridgestone RE003. The tread pattern looks very aggressive. First impression is that the tire are noticeably more quiet and and ride is more comfortable than the RE050A.

My front tyres need to go. But I think it's best to change all four tyres to the same brand. Michelin Supersports not available for my car. Going by the EVO tyres test its the Continental Sport Contact 5 for me.

Both my front tyres are now gone. Need new shoes ASAP. I've decided for Conti sportcontact 5.

I'm pretty happy with the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tyres (in 225/40R18) that I've run for the summer. I know it's not the most aggressive tyre, but they've never left me wanting for more grip and the noise level is much lower than one might expect. Comfortable too, which means I've been able to go over the speed bumps in my neighbourhood much faster than people driving SUV's, sorry, SAV's from a certain manufacturer with a preference for run-flats. :D

With the temperatures dropping, it's time for my Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8's (in 225/45R17) to report for duty. Couldn't be happier with those, massive grip on snow and ice.

I have Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 for my wintertyres, the third winterseason with these tyres are coming up.

Thought I'd revive this thread with some comparative videos from Tyre Reviews.

Michelin Pilot SS with 285/30 and 255/35. Very good all around tires, but sidewall is softer than my liking (at least, the version on my car without extra load capacity).

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S seems to be getting rave reviews and also is better than Super Sport in every way so that is what I am looking at putting on.

This year's best evo performance tyres. No surprise on the winner.

It's been a while since I posted here and being active 100%....The obstacles of life etc,,

Lately the F12 started to fight for traction and things were about to get very scary in Sport mode, it never felt this way in Sport mode, but it was a sign of aging tires that no longer could handle all that power.

Nothing lasts forever and tires on high performance cars were meant to be replaced, the sooner...the better.

So a quick decision had to be made ASAP and the (PSS) Pilot Super Sport got replaced with a new set for the F12, my old tires started to dry rot and ended up with cracks on the sidewalls, a fresh set of tires seems to cure a lot of things.

- The ride is so smooth, that I've forgotten how good it felt on day 1 I took delivery
- Tire noise is gone
- The car is no longer fighting for traction in Sport / Race mode (Warm tires at 37c and up)
- No more sideway actions, especially in 1st and 2nd gears.

I always thought the Pilot Super Sport was the all be all with the ultimate dry/wet grip tire out there and nothing can come close.

My Lambo's annual appointment was about to come up within few weeks, I thought I'd switch the Pirelli P Zero with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, the P Zero is on the noisy side (always has been) and need some time to warm up to lay down the power properly, unlike the Super Sport, the grip is almost there and continues to offer more grip the warmer it gets.

It almost crossed my mind that PSS will soon be discontinued and will be replaced with PS4S, I thought I'd give it a shot and find out if PS4S is available for older Ferrari models, unfortunately, nothing as of yet.

The letter (K) K1, K2, K3 is the code for Ferrari tires when buying Michelin tires. It's a big deal when your car is under warranty and mine had another 2 years of extension. Can't slap a wider tire without the Ferrari code and get away with it, damn you Maranello :frown.doodle:

Back to the Lambo, since Lamborghini didn't bother to release any codes for the older models and currently the Aventador only has the (L) code branded on its Pirelli tires, I thought why wouldn't I give the PS4S a shot and see how it turns out.

I hear a lot of Lambo dealers talk out of their rear end and warn owners to not use anything other than Pirelli tires. The diffs will be worn out and could get damaged  my car has only one diff and I'm willing to take that chance, just like when Pilot Super Sport came out in 2011 and Porsche was pissed big time when they found out owners started to make the switch and told them to shove the n-rated tires up their brAss. I was one of them (GT2) including tons of CGT owners.

The moment I left my Lambo service center after her annual check up was completed with PS4S fitted, I could immediately tell how smooth the ride was with a responsive steering wheel, and the tire noise.. where did it go ? o_O

I don't know if it's only me, but my braking power seems to have improved a lot, the brake pedal feels very responsive and alive o_O

I haven't completed the tire break-in period yet, but I did get the chance to push her from 1st gear and from roll (2nd gear) fishtailing is NON-existent in this unpredictable 2wd Lambo, if tires aren't warmed up properly (optimal temp, I'd say 37+ such as the F12) happened a lot with Pirelli from launch or at a stop light     with PS4S it doesn't seem to take forever to warm up, I can't tell how fast it warms up in colder regions, but I usually keep the revs below 3,000 rpm for no less then 15 minutes before I go full throttle. I do go sideways from time to time with Pirelli of course, but the game has changed now that PS4S took over :)

For a moment, I thought I had some sort of a sophisticated AWD system out of a $1Million Hypercar that took care of traction without breaking a sweat  :D

Now if only Michelin would release the proper sizes for the Aventador, I'd love to experience launch control on that bull :sneaky:

I'm not sure which meme fits best to express my feelings and how awesome the PS4S really is and well worth every cent
