Politics The Debate Thread

From this latest news release....James Comey was given the impossible task, either way he was going to fall.

Washington (CNN)The FBI posted a document Monday that suggests former FBI Director James Comey began drafting what became his infamous July 2016 statement about Hillary Clinton's private server months ahead of time, releasing a heavily redacted copy of the exchange.

The bureau posted the document to its "Vault" Freedom of Information Act reading room, titled "Drafts of Director Comey's July 5, 2016 Statement Regarding Email Server Investigation Part 01 of 01."

I think his support has peaked and is ebbing.
Rural America tells the story of his support base.
Yes, he has not been fulfilling promises he made during the election (what a surprise from a politician).

The mid-term elections will be very interesting to watch.

I find it quite amusing that these wealthy liberals think they can bypass a democratic election result with money....while they accuse others for interfering with their election.

Someone's got to try getting rid of him, his own party failed when they allowed him to win the nomination.

I can only say I 100% agree with "T. Rex" that Trump is a f...ing moron. If Rex is saying it ... Who am I to disagree ... :D

Well I would agree with Giannis that Trump is Democratically elected - like it or not.
If they do succeed in getting rid of him, it had better be for a very good reason - because his supporters aren't just going to disappear if Trump goes.

Odd...

"Agent Oranges' Most Excellent Adventures In Lunacy" have been leaving me increasingly indifferent lately. Simply far too much happening on my side of the Atlantic. The "goings' on" in D.C. are being upstaged bigly.

He wouldn't be impeached because somebody paid for it. He would be impeached because somebody was paid enough to reveal evidence. Nothing is being "bypassed".

In the meantime, political parties all across the world receive donations from people keen for certain policies to be implemented. That's not exactly ethical. Larry Flynt is just making things equal.

It is true Betty. Democracy is corrupted by the people who supposedly serve us.

However, we're probably headed towards a Global technocracy with AI managing everything.

The old Soviet system of resource management failed largely because of the enormous amounts af data that needed to be processed to make the system work.

AI can handle massive amounts of data ...and as we move further and further into the realm of IoT (Internet of Things) I can imagine a time when the world is largely managed by AI rather than elected representatives.

As imperfect as human beings may be, I would always rather have the right to have some say in how I am governed.

Totalitarian rule by AI doesn't sound like utopia to me.

Providing there is indeed something to be found, Mueller has already been given a great deal of investigative power, so what exactly is Larry trying to achieve? It has been nearly 12 months since the election, there are better and more constructive ways to protest against Trump than this.

I don't think things can ever be made "equal" there are simply too many unknowns going on.

In Speech, Sen. McCain Decries 'Half-Baked, Spurious Nationalism'

In what appeared to be a thinly veiled reference to politics in the Age of Trump, Sen. John McCain on Monday warned Americans against "half-baked, spurious nationalism," calling the abandonment of U.S. global leadership "unpatriotic."

Speaking in Philadelphia, where he was being honored with the Liberty Medal by the National Constitution Center, McCain did not mention the president by name, but his words appeared aimed at Trump and his administration.

"To abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe, to refuse the obligations of international leadership for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems," he said, "is as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history."

Honestly, McCain is not somebody I have much time for. The guy is a total warmongering Neocon.

But right now he is one the right side of history.
I sometimes disagree with him, but on most cases I see eye to eye with him.

btw, I wonder which members of congress are taking medication for dementia - my money is on Nancy Pelosi - but McCain and Harry Reid are strong contenders too.

There’s a little-known pharmacy that serves the most powerful people in Congress, and some of the prescriptions ‘are for some pretty serious health problems’

I don't agree often with McCain, but these days I do agree with him on this and for his call on bringing proper order to the Senate.

I don't hate McCain, in fact I could see myself possibly voting for McCain in 2000. But I can't abide by his craven strategy of facilitating the injection of the Freedom Caucus/Tea Party malarkey into the mainstream by selecting Palin as VP during the 2008 campaign.

Also this Sebastian Kurz fella seems like a bit of tw*t.

OK, this thread has run its course and it is now closed.

After the first cleanup, and name change, it has continued to grow aimlessly with various topics, some good ones some not so good. Some of these may find themselves in a spin-off thread of their own, some will be removed.

Now, as you may have read before posting, this entire new section is 'loosely moderated'; it does not mean 'not moderated'. All site rules still apply, and this thread was certainly not exempt.
Some members here have apparently tried to circumvent them and/or plainly broken them, either intentionally or unintentionally.
We have now started the cleanup and we are going to deal with this.
