Congratulations mate.
Have you taken delivery of the EQS?
Do you mind sharing more?
Taken delivery of the EQS. Its lovely. Great car for the driver. Rear seats are simple and work well.
I think the BMW is the superior car in many respects but for me, it lacked the ambience and subtlety of the Mercedes. The Mercedes somehow remains elegant despite the huge hyper screen.
The hyper screen for me has been a game changer. Its amazing, especially for watching films during a car wash, sending to the passenger screen.
I was watching Batman 1989 on the Hyperscreen whilst my girlfriend (with Mercedes headphones in the passenger seat) was watching Mulan.
Speakers were also much better in the EQS (which echoes Marques's thoughts on the BMW speakers).
the BMW does does a LOOOOOOT more than the EQS - self closing doors, huge rear screen, proper executive rear seats WITH massage are for me the highlights. For me as the driver - they aren't deal breakers.
I'm also not sold on the huge gigantic rear screen. It blocks the rear window - that's not safe. I also prefer the Rolls Royce (and mercedes approach) to individual screens for each passenger. I still think nothing really beats 2x Ipad OLED Pros 12.9'' with 2x pairs of very high-end headphones with a bluetooth pair off high-end headphones attached to each, which will less and can be used in future cars or.. frankly anywhere.
The EQS also has some nice tricks put its sleeve. The preconditioned car, the digital lights, the heads display. - it all just works. It's a bit like an Apple vs Android debate. One does less, but it works and works easily. The other does more, but it probably needs more polish.
I think some of the material Mercedes uses in the EQS and S class are a bit cheap. Gloss black is too common in the car etc. in many respects my sister's GLE has some more elegant materials.
On the flip side, what mercedes does - they do well. The BMW ambient lighting is ... not as nice or elegant as Mercedes? I don't think many will deny the night time experience in an S class or EQS is magical, especially the EQS with the hyperscreen.
I think you can't go wrong with either car.
Either be:
1. Cutting edge luxury with the BMW
OR
2. Simplified luxury with the Mercedes
I think the truly exciting point is in next year's cars. Mercedes will have to innovate and BMW can now re-fine and make things even easier.
Overall, its clear the BMW is superior - but transitional.
The Mercedes is refined, but needs improvement to match.
I think if you don't like the Hyperscreen (I love it) then the BMW wins.
Looks wise, the new model with the badge has brought back the prestige. The BMW to me looks REALLY roll's royce from the front but the back it looks... very cheap. IMO should have been a bit longer or bumpier at the back like last generation.
TLDR:
The BMW does more (Rear seat phenomenal comfort re: massages, self closing and opening doors, much better performance in each package)
The Mercedes does better as what it does (Sound system, massage functions, hyper screen functionality, ambient lighting)
The defining difference is finance options. Mercedes have better finance options. BMW aren't doing many or any offers finance wise on cars.
For me, I'm doing business PCP so I'm trading in the car in 3-4 years anyway. SO I'm not buying for today but buying for the NEXT iteration of cars in 2-3 years time for the trade in. I have my money on Mercedes probably taking what BMW. have done and making it better rather than BMW refining what they have IMO.
