This video shows quite well, what I mean, when I say, the G70 looks like a crossover, being rather narrow and tall. The height to width ratio of the 7er is just completely off: 1,544 meter x 1,95 meter.
They are ways of looking at it, they are out of place with respect to ..... the S?This video shows quite well, what I mean, when I say, the G70 looks like a crossover, being rather narrow and tall. The height to width ratio of the 7er is just completely off: 1,544 meter x 1,95 meter.
For comparison:
S class: 1,503 meter x 1,954 meter.
Try putting 110 mm high battery pack under the S class. Everything comes from the shared platform. The designers couldn't do anything to counter act this. This video shows quite well, what I mean, when I say, the G70 looks like a crossover, being rather narrow and tall. I’d say ‘their mistake’, they didn’t have to. Now they have the worst of both worlds. As a BEV it is nothing special, as an ICE it could be something special, but the design and sheer size making it a lost case applies to both.Try putting 110 mm high battery pack under the S class. Fully agree. But, there is one big but. VAG is in ruins due to their unsuccessful separate platform EV strategy, I suppose Mercedes are also very unhappy with the financial results of their EVs, so after all, out of the big three Germans, the BMW's strategy could be the least awful.I’d say ‘their mistake’, they didn’t have to. To me, the best strategy so far is Porsche's. Yes, they still sell the Macan and the 718, which are quite old, but both models look great even today. In the mean time, more dedicated EVs are coming out. First the Taycan, then the Macan, 718, Cayenne... Nothing seems rushed and the EVs they are launching seem good both technical and design wise.Fully agree. But, there is one big but. I agree but Porsche has a much smaller lineup making it much easier to do it they eat they are.To me, the best strategy so far is Porsche's. Right now, it’s seems the strategy is working. I certainly see a lot more Taycans here in Madrid than any EQ turd.
I believe MB could have followed a very similar approach. Making the EQ line up something closer to the classic line up, and maybe being more risky with certain design elements.I agree but Porsche has a much smaller lineup making it much easier to do it they eat they are.

2 weeks ago I managed to see the new G70 735i parked directly next to the S450 W223. Both cars were black and with 20inch wheels on the BMW and 19inch wheels on the Mercedes.
I was quite in amazement and shock about the major contrast in design the new G70 shows with the previous G12 and with the W223 in size, especially height.
The new 7 series is a huge car, its front fenders, bonnet and boot are all at least 5cm or more higher than the S450. It makes the W223 look like a vastly smaller car from the class below.
The Mercedes is a much more elegant car and looks everybit as modern but in a totally different way to the BMW. Its maybe not as daring and some may say its a touch conservative but in many ways at least in my eyes it is a vastly more desirable car than the BMW G70.
The BMW worst angle is the front 3/4 angle, it looks so awkward and doesn't look pretty at all and totally out of place compared the rear of the car. Its too high in the front, the difference in height between the top of the fender and the wheel arch is huge compared to the S class.
The rear of the car just looks so normal compared to the front and doesn't look like a BMW in my honest opinion it could be rear lights from a Toyota, they just so anonymous.
The Mercedes again is not got the most attractive rear end on a luxury saloon but its tail lights look more attractive and have nicer graphics than the BMW.
I had a look through the side front side windows at the interiors and the BMW G70 is vastly different to the Mercedes. It is a bit too flashy inside with the crystal bar across the dash and doors while the Merc has lovely large slab of wood on its dash with classier looking vents.
Wow I am amazed that the owner of the 7 series traded their car in for an S-class!!! Maybe they weren't into the styling and also the glitzy interior?

In real life there is a huge difference in styling, these cars look like they not rivals anymore, not emulating each other in any way.
The Mercedes looks surprisingly the more sportier car with its lower and sleeker stance, while the 7 is leaning towards its Rolls Royce sister by been tall and upright with a massive grill.
The Mercedes is alot more traditional but still forward looking while the BMW is really over the top and meant to draw in alot of comments about its styling and interior.
I would be interested to know in the long run whether people will warm up to the BMW and buy many cars.
A bit like a GT3 vs Hurecan. Both supercars but yet very different in philosophy. In real life there is a huge difference in styling, these cars look like they not rivals anymore, not emulating each other in any way.
Agreed, vulgar fits the bill.I can't see this 7 series doing too well outside of the US and China, which are fortunately large markets. It's just over the top, vulgar I say, and overly large.
There's already HUGE discounts to be had on them here in Australia.
I am not that amazed the 7er owner traded it’s car already. For some reason you can watch the 7er getting old and obsolete in a fast way.Wow I am amazed that the owner of the 7 series traded their car in for an S-class!!! Maybe they weren't into the styling and also the glitzy interior?

Those last comments have no basis, or if they do, please explain it, old?, obsolete?, vulgar, large?... sounds like personal opinions of people who would have a certain inclination towards the S-Class.....ahhh, I see
