Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Just when I thought the graceful profile of the audi A5 couldn't be beat, MB have done it. The black one is just WOW. A full blooded Benz. This car will be one spectacle, a mini CL.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Not really buying this one anymore because the CLK63 AMG Black Series is pillar-less also and it will smoke an M6 dynamically. So a pillar-less coupe can be made to be dynamic. The issue is whether or not a company wants to spend the extra development money to do so. True a B-pillar does increase structural rigidity, but to suggest that a car without one can't be as or more dynamic just isn't true at all. Mercedes does the engineering to make a pillar-less coupe just as rigid and crash worthy as anyone else does their pillared coupes. In truth it is just plain cheaper for a company to do a b-pillar for a coupe than to go pillar-less. Pillar-less requires more crash testing, engineering etc.

BTW the 6-Series "dynamics" have been criticized a many times, they're far from being perfect.

Preach ..
Proof: Zonda F vs Zonda F roadster.. (ROOFLESS) no loss rigidity..:usa7uh:

E Coupe looks niiccee ... when is this going to be presented ?

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

You'll be surprised how bloated this new CLK really looks.

It's an ugly bloated yet angry-looking frog. Not kidding!

This car really has some ill proportions. Side panels are just too massive. The flame-surfaced work n the metal can't hide all the massiveness of the side profile. E65 7er & E63 6er look like skinny-cars compared to this fatty.

The front looks fine, while the back is very uninspiring (Lexus ES-like).

Eg. in this segment A5 looks massive yet not bloated. While 3er looks like an anorexic car compared to those two (A5 & new CLK).

Cars like the Zonda and CGT don't compare since they have much more complex and rigid architecture than conventional cars. Space age monocoque using exotic materials like CF and magnesium.

As far as dynamics go the CLK will stay true to it's gracious appearance by offering amazing comfort and style. Though I would expect to see some major improvements in handling and such, MB made a giant leap with new C-class, so that should be replicated with the CLK.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

wow i really like it the more i see it looks really beutifull car.
I would like to buy a convertible in a year or two but i am confused between a e and the ne convertible.
I wish the tail pipes were not round i like the other ones more.About the part by the window it does seem real i think mb wont mess up on that i think when the car is launched it might look nice maybe they doing something different lets wait and see..

Overall i love this car its looking amazing cant wait....:t-cheers:

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I think it looks pretty good, a typical Merc. It was never expected they'll do "flame surfacing" or lines that will be as sophisticated yet neat as BMWs, Mercs are more simple, having lines that you can see and that's it, and somehow adding up to some of their traditional design elements, they end up looking good.
That third window at the rear makes the whole thing very Audi though, i mean if it doesn't have that slope and have it slope "/" <--this way or "|" this way, it would look more of a Merc, but it slopes "\" this way which means it's Audi.
As for B pillar, it's a MB tradition not to have the B pillar, i'm sure there are some advantages for having a B-pillar, the chassis is stiffer and stable. Personally i don't know why but i kinda like the B-pillar, it just feels more secure and personal inside =D.

Took the words right out of my mouth.
Oh, and could be leave the BMW propaganda out of this thread, it's about the E-coupe not the 6er.

Nice post, Agree!.... You know the previous CLK had a B-Pillar and the new generation does not. However the lateral force is actually stronger on the current model because MB increased the Hi-strength Low alloy steel in the "BOX" (crash-zone) sections. This includes the A and C-pillars, making the current model a little heavier.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I prefer a design with B-pillar (and eventually fixed rear window) to the little third window we see on the spypics... But, to each his own I guess..

The designers should have tapered the C-post a little much like the previous CL. That might have prevented the small black section in the quarters.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I really like the old school Benz wheel flaring of the rear wheel arch. A nice retro touch without being too nostalgic.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I really like the side profile view. Very Mercedes Benz. Has to be good to compare to this but - My favourite coupe on sale today.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I wonder what MB plans on doing about the highly popular 335i. It would be nice if they offer a version with an equally as competitive price.................which I kind of doubt since they are calling the car an E coupe.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I think its a good move to make the CLK the CLE - a exquisite luxury offering because they can't caompete with the sports persona of the 335i coupe. Instead of going head to head with BMW they are targeting a different demographic - good move

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

THE new E-Class is going to offer a 300+ hp 350 engine, so, in terms of engines I´m not worried. What I don´t like a bit of the 3er coupe is the interior, with hard plastics and not a very good design (especialy on the sppedo zone).

With this E Coupe, I am sure the interior part of the car is going to be class leading, acording to the spy pics we´ve been seeing.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Always loved the roofline on the previous generation CL.
