2016 BMW 3 Series LCI: Full LED provides new light design

The 2016 BMW 3 Series Facelift will bring minor changes to the design and one that is likely to stand out is the updated headlight and taillight design. Similar to other models which were previously using Xenon headlamps, the facelifted 3 Series will get full LED lights all around. The new lights have allowed the designers to get more creative with the shape of the lights, improving their aesthetics.

The renderings below aim to highlight what the 3er facelift might look like, both from the front and rear. As seen in the images below, the new lights are a combination of the ones seen on the 4 Series Coupe Concept and the recently unveiled 1 Series LCI.

Inside, the trim and colors will get a small refresh, and the iDrive Touch Controller. No significant interior changes are expected.

All versions of the BMW 3 Series facelift will also benefit from a new suspension tuning, which will provide even more dynamic driving without compromising comfort.

The previous top model 335i is replaced from the summer of 2015 by the BMW 340i with a new 330 hp six-cylinder engine. Rumors around a possible three-cylinder 3 Series have been circulating on the interwebs for quite some time now, but even though BMW originally planned for it, the decision was made to keep the four-cylinder engine as the entry-level 3 Series – at least for the current generation. The new B47 four-cylinder diesel turbo will debut under the hood of the 318d and 320d models. The B57 six-cylinder diesel unit won’t arrive until the G11 7 Series launches, so the 330d and 335d xDrive will continue to use the N57 powerplant.

2016 BMW 3 Series LCI: Full LED provides new light design

Maybe this is why BMW is so generous with the new packages these days. I read allot of articles about the N47 engine. Maybe they want to clean out the existing models like 320D and replace them with this new engine (B47)?

I'm a few clicks away from finalizing my order for a S60 and received 2 call from BMW where they reduced the offered price. So i been again halted my order and been comparing the cars again(S60 D4 vs BMW 320D). I stumbled on a few articles regarding the problem with the BMW n47 engines that i suspect still exist in 2014/2015 models. At the moment there is some huge discounts i'm getting from the car dealer for the 320D which is somewhat tempting but all the videos and articles about this issue does not sound promising:

So what do you guys think about this problem? is the existing 2015 models of 320D (184hp) problematic still? would be nice with some inside information :)

Never thought buying a car would be this much of a work :D

For comparison purposes I have added one of the renders I've posted already above.

2016 BMW 3 Series (facelift) to debut on May 7
Minor cosmetic changes for BMW’s C Class rival.

WorldCarFans reports that according to its source the 3 Series LCI will be revealed to the press on May 7 in an event in Munich, Germany.

The F30 facelift will be the first 3 Series to get LED headlights.

The facelifted 3 Series is expected to get a revised front fascia with optional LED headlights, a tweaked kidney grille and new front and rear bumpers. New alloy wheel patterns and an LED strip for the taillight are other expected cosmetic revisions.

Changes inside will be far more discreet with an updated iDrive system and a new range of trim options.

Reports say that BMW will be giving mild updates to the petrol and diesel engines for higher fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. Speculation is rife that the 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine could power the base variant of the sedan. Post the unveiling next month, the 3 Series facelift is expected to enter production in Europe in August.

The 3 Series is sold in India in the 328i and 320d guises. Image of the 320d GT’s dashboard used for illustrative purposes only.

The new 3 Series went on sale in India in mid-2012, and is assembled at BMW’s Chennai plant. Powering the Indian model are a set of 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines available in petrol and diesel guises (328i and 320d respectively).

I always tought that the C class is a 3 series rival and not vice versa. And to call a totally new family of engines a mild update is not very professional. Also the three cylinder is for the next generation not for the facelift as far as I remember

It works both ways no? I the 3er is a C rival, the C is a 3er rival.
Agreed on the second and third point though. Calling the all new engines mild updates is pretty stupid, and the 3 pot is indeed for the next gen version (when the 3er is lighter again).

I consider the 3er to be the benchmark and the rest the rivals. It's like saying that the S class is a 7 series's rival

Your understanding of the word "rival" is mistaken. "Rival" simply means "competitor". Of the ten girls fighting for my affections, one could be constantly the frontrunner, but it doesn't stop her being a rival.

"Benchmark" means a standard by which others must be judged. Her name is Luisa.

@klier is correct.

The 3er is the benchmark in which its competitors are measured against.
Now it will be even more so.
