If you forget about the obvious FWD proportions, it does not look bad at all.

This is suppose to preview the next gen 1er hatch isn´t it?

Yes. Underneath its styling is quite appropriate. Thank God it does not look like any of the above recent renders.

BMW is developing 1 series sedan based on the next generation of the hatchback, which is expected to be debut in 2017. Now BMW 3 series is the entry level sedan from the company. BMW’s rivals Audi and Mercedes have already launched new entry level sedans and the market has shown good response for these models. The BMW 1 series sedan is codenamed as NES (New Entry-level Sedan).

That is not the only problem with it. SCOTT27, will the styling be this predictable and uninspiring? If it looks anything remotely close to this, it will be a truly missed opportunity.
 
Even if it turns out to be the most beautiful sedan Germany has ever produced, it will still be ruined by the absence of a differential between the rear wheels.

FWD sedan from BMW? No, thanks. End of story.

Yeah, a bold approach like the E46 Compact is long overdue and would be most welcome.
 
I remember reading recently how the Hoffmeister kink accentuates on the RWD proportions of the car... maybe it's time to drop it.
