I'm fairly sure this will be an all new model with almost no shared parts with its predecessor.

Looks like dealers in the U.S. were shown the finished product recently:

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is going to be all-new! After years of rumors and speculation, MBUSA showed an early example to dealers at a meeting recently. It is still over a year away and I have no details but it is already time to react! The photo above is a classic G55. It is a testament to the design that you can’t tell if it is a 1985, 1995 or 2015!

The best info I have on the redesign right now is that it is longer, wider and less tall. It also has a significantly more luxurious interior and more space in the backseat. It will still look like G-Class but could be a little more S-Class on the inside. If that sounds like your kind of SUV then the 2019 G-Class might be calling your name! We won’t see any real pictures or specification for a few more months.

I hope that they do thought, im planning to attend this year show because one of the major reasons attending, is to see the new G Class.

If it is a 2019 for the U.S. market it could debut anytime between Frankfurt in Sept or Geneva in March of 2018.

New aluminium chassis
(Probably) use of aluminum for body
New engines
New gearbox
New interior and multimedia
New exterior but close to previous models
New suspension or new suspension parts?

So we could say heavy modernization but also a new model.
Something like Sukhoi 27 and Sukhoi 35, I'd say...

The analogue dials are a nod to the retro dash of the 70's/ 80's G dash, cant wait to see this one!!!
