Agree. Stunning.

I recall the Autobild illustrator (believe it was Huckfeldt) nailing the D4 A8 in an August 2008 rendering. 14-15 months prior to the first Audi AG official press photographs. It would be nice if history could repeat itself in this particular case.

Unfortunately, that was a complete leak and not a render then. This series of shots also fully revealed the back and the dash.

This here may follow good informants' inspirations but it's still speculative.

I don't believe Audi will bring out an A8 as bold as this render, if it had to I think sales of the A8 will increase hugely. This render does look very nice indeed!

If I were designing the next a8 it would like this. I would want

1418757195222.webp
it to be a bit more controversial while not straying too far away from the themes shown in the prologue concept. one thing that I believe audi feels they have to do is make every grille reach all the way to the bottom of the car. As shown here, they don't and it can still look good and move design forward.

Great sketches @JPATT93 I think you need to get a job at Audi! This will be a good design as it's bold, controversial yet still has a lot of the Audi family design elements in it.

I have seen a few renders based on the Coupe concept and if they stick to that design theme for the A8, it could be the looker of the segment.

Audi execs confirm semi-autonomous A8, will be able to drive itself at speeds up to 37 mph

Audi has revealed some new details about the 2016 A8.

Speaking to Autoweek, Audi Research & Development boss Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg confirmed a semi-autonomous A8 is “very close to production" and will arrive by the end of next year. Hackenberg was coy on specifics but the publication is reporting the model will be able to drive itself at speeds up to 60 km/h (37 mph). The model is also rumored to be able to find open spaces and park itself.

While the 60 km/h (37 mph) speed doesn't sound too impressive, Audi of America President Scott Keogh said "If you think about the average daily city commute, most of it takes place at relatively slow speeds."

Hackenberg also pointed out that the 60 km/h (37 mph) speed is just a starting point and additional capabilities will be added later on. As he explained, a fully autonomous mode is still a ways off but the next step will involve a semi-autonomous driving mode at highway speeds.

Audi has confirmed that the next generation of the A8 flagship will inaugurate its new Traffic Jam Pilot self-driving technology.

Speaking to Digital Trends on the sidelines of the Geneva Motor Show, Audi's chief engineer for electronics development Ricky Hudi explained that Traffic Jam Pilot will be able to control the A8 without any input from the driver at speeds of up to anywhere between 37 and 50 mph depending on road conditions. The system will only be operational on the freeway when the lanes are clearly marked, and it is primarily being designed with traffic jams in mind.

Audi gave the world a sneak preview of its upcoming Traffic Jam Pilot technology when it introduced the prologue piloted driving concept (pictured) at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that took place in Las Vegas last January. Like the concept, the next-gen A8 will rely on a laser scanner, several video cameras, sensors on both ends and ultrasound sensors to gather data about the car and its surroundings. The information will be transferred to a central controller that will handle driving duties.

Interestingly, the driver will need to remain focused on the road ahead. The A8 will send a series of audible warnings if it senses that the driver is distracted or asleep or if Traffic Jam Pilot can't continue to drive the car on its own for any reason. The car will come to a full stop if the driver doesn't respond in a timely manner.

Additional details about the next-gen Audi A8 will emerge over the coming months. Audi hasn't revealed when the sedan will be introduced, but we wouldn't be surprised to see it bow either next fall at the Frankfurt Motor Show or at next year's edition of the Geneva Motor Show.

Next generation Audi A8 reportedly delayed until late 2017 to perfect autonomous tech
Was set for a late 2016 reveal
British media is reporting Audi has decided to postpone the launch of its next-gen A8 flagship model because they want to work more on the autonomous driving technology.

Ingolstadt's range-topping model was supposed to come out towards the end of 2016 but apparently it has been postponed by approximately 12 months as Audi is perfecting the electronic architecture for supporting the semi-autonomous driving technology which has already been confirmed. Autocar says this is only one of the reasons which caused the delay, but more details are not available at this point.

Mules of the next-gen Audi A8 have been caught on camera since July last year wearing the body of the current A8 facelift. It will keep roughly the same dimensions as today's car but the styling will be significantly different as the new A8 will be Audi's first production car designed by Marc Lichte. It will be heavily influenced by the Prologue concept so it should be more stylish than the outgoing model.

Or are there other reasons? Can't believe this is the only one

Featured in the newest issue of Autobild magazine. Looks quite plausible. Also...the article alludes to a 4 door coupe version of the Prologue being presented at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show.

If that render is accurate, I would put this in the third place in terms of looks. Frist would be the S-Class and second the G11 7er.

In the front of the Render with that huge mouth it reminds me of a Basking Shark which in case you did not know is the Lamest Shark in the Shark World.

Obviously highly subjective and based on an individuals perception of automotive beauty:

Providing that the rendering is accurate (remains an "if"), the upcoming A8/S8 appeals to me most. Personally, I simply prefer "sport over stately"-and the D5 pushes the right buttons for me. That being said, the G11/G12 looks to be another tantalizing exercise in automotive exterior design. As mentioned by several forum members recently, in M-Sport guise, it should be quite a cracker.

Despite its' undeniable intrinsic qualities, the W222 has already lost all visual appeal to my eyes. Upon its' introduction, I was undecided and careening between "hot and cold". In the meantime, I have become decidedly "cool" towards the car. M-B, solely on terms of personal eye-appeal, does a splendid job on their 4 seater coupes/cabriolets. On sedans-not so much.

@Jimmy why dislike Scott's post when you yourself posted that picture of that animal in the 7er thread yesterday?

And @SCOTT27 why is the basking shark the lamest shark?

Oh, my intentions were actually more playful than acerbic. O.K.-perhaps an exercise in "acerbic wit".

I do however find it rather unbecoming that a self-confessed BMW employee in an elevated position throw what can be a considered a "cheap shot" at a competitors' product. My 2 Euro cents.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
