E-Class (W213) [Spyshots] 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213)

The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.

This is some really advanced projection technology with it`s light filtering process.

Mercedes-Benz planning straight-six gasoline engine family for next E-Class and SL
Other models to follow
Mercedes-Benz insiders cited by Motoring say a range of straight-six gasoline engines is currently in the works.

The straight-six engines are being developed in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms and will reach the next generation E-Class and SL. This is not the first time we hear this rumoras last November Autocar said the same thing about the 2016/2017 E-Class (W213). It is believed later on the S-Class will also receive a similar engine which promises to provide "a better match for customer expectations."

The report mentions these straight-six engines will have a displacement ranging from 2.2 to 3.5 liters while details about possible diesel versions are not available at this point. Mercedes-Benz's upcoming inline-six engines are reportedly related to the 4-cylinder turbocharged motors offered in the A-Class lineup but high-powered AMG variants are not in the pipeline.

Chances are we will see the first new Mercedes-Benz inline-six engine sometime in 2016 when the all-new E-Class will be launched.

My guess is the NA straight six will be combined with some hybrid tech, while the turbo version is for the higher performance model, and possibly replace the V8 engines.

So then why not have a turbo engine combined with hybrid tech and achieve even better fuel consumption figures?

This doesn't make sense as it will defeat their purpose of cost cutting with this new straight six to use uniform components such as piston sizes etc. for six and four cylinder engines. It would also be the only NA engine in their current line up. I personally think only a 3.0T will be brought out in different states of tune and no NA engine

Funny thing is that sucu123 predicted this to a tee about 2 months ago, while everyone was expecting W212-based test mules.
I suppose MB abdicates the very first prototypes of the W213 due to the MRA plattform the e-class will be based on. Powertrain and suspension can be tested with the W205 body which is a lot cheaper than using the W213 body at this stage.

It would make perfect sense to use parts built with the standard moulds for the physical mock up rather than using pre-production samples. On this account I expect first spy shots 18 months before market launch which should be in spring-time 2016.
Seems Daimler AG has now managed to trim development time of new models, based on the shorter testing cycle (compared to W212) for the W213. Does anyone think that possibly an internal delay occurred, resulting in these rather late appearing mules? What we've heard from some of those that participated in Los Angeles W213 design clinics (January 2013), is that they negatively reviewed what was the "2017 E350".

If Mercedes botches the E-Class they'll be in serious trouble. A funny looking, but low volume SL is one thing, but the E has to be right. If that clinic went south then I wouldn't be surprised if there is a delay. I don't get it though, why would the E come out ugly after the stunning S and C? They must be trying to move the current design language onwards and it didn't come out right.

2016 Mercedes E-Class / E63 AMG mule
Will be based on the MRA platform
Our spies have snapped the first pictures of what is believed to be a chassis testing mule for the 2016 Mercedes E63 AMG.

Caught wearing a modified C-Class body, the 2016 E63 AMG will ride on a longer and wider version of the MRA platform. The model should also feature the usual AMG styling cues including an aggressive front bumper and a four-tailpipe sports exhaust system.

Power will likely be provided by the company's new twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine. It produces 510 PS (375 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) in the AMG GT but this is significantly less than the current model's twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 that cranks out 557 PS (410 kW) and 720 Nm (531 lb-ft) of torque. This suggests the engine could be upgraded to match or exceed its predecessor but nothing is official as of yet.

Unfortunately I didn't see this reply earlier. Well I hope they did it right then, as after 18 months I would wager 4-8 months being spent correcting and finalising a different body design since early last year. Likely not what happened, but at least it's still on schedule. One of its competitors from north of Germany and to the east of Ireland can't say the same of course.:shifty:

Why not? However, it would make the whole line-up look way to similar. I'm really curious if MB is going to make E Class more elegant, or more striking, than the current one (I would bet on the former one). Can't wait for the first real W213 prototype spy pics.

I'm curious why anyone thinks this is the case? Does this appear to be a modified C? And why would they be seen testing an AMG before even the regular model?

The top picture is a known photo of the C AMG. Please tell me, from that angle, how you see any difference at all in the dimensions?
From what I can see, the distance between the back of the front wheel well to the front door is identical. The length of the doors appears to be identical. Nor can I see any difference in the lenght of the hood.

The cars on page one show the distinctions. These shot does not. I'm guessing it is just a C and it's a slow week.

The cars pictured above are most certainly not W213 E-Class mules. Simply testbeds for C-Class versions.
