E-Class W213 [Spyshots] 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213)

The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.
One thing I REALLY loved about my F10 5 Series was the Comfort Seats. By contrast the E-Class has harder, less malleable seats, even with their strange comfort seat option with tacked on plastic switchgear that still pales compared to BMW. In my opinion, BMW are the seating leaders. I really hope they getting right with the next E, as it may be my next car.

The ultimate seats is probably Volvo now that Saab is history.

The new S class and S class coupe probably have the finest seats on any new car, but that's talking from a combined comfort and support point of view. Best sports seats well then that is another debate all together!

As I have been saying for months, it is pretty mich clear the new character line in MBs is less dropping and with integrated door handles. It will be present in the C-Coupe, GLE Coupe, and E-Class.

I expect the same front end to be present on all the models now.

George Kasher (if I've spelled his name correctly) said in one of his texts that the next E Class will have two screens a-la-S-Class. He was not always right, though.

If you look reeeealy close in the spy pic from the Amat46's post, you can barely see large chrome ring in front of the driver - suggesting the E will have instrument cluster like the C, with integrated central screen like the S.

I'm already feeling excited about this car, although it probably won't bring anything revolutionary for the industry. How much money can I get for one kidney? :D

Those recent proto's are hybrids.....the camo'd plug in flap on the RHS under the tail light...Interesting

That looks like a good render and what I think the new E class could look like a combination of C class and S class coupe, very nice. Plus it still has a link to current one with the lights having the twin lights under each light cover

I think the front end is pretty much spot on. But the profile is not. The shoulder line will be higher ad wth the door handles on it.

They've used S Coupe's lights in this render, but they should also consider using new Multibeam LEDs (like on the CLS and AMG GT) in their render.

New 2017 Mercedes E-Class Spied: Here Are the Close-Up Details

Now that Mercedes has launched the 2015 C-Class, the Germans are preparing to hit us with the next-generation E-Class. Judging by how often our spy photographers cross paths lenses with the prototypes, it’s clear that test engineers are working overtime these days.

If you’ve been following the E-Class, you know the model has lost a part of its mojo. Sure, Mercedes-Benz may have invested EUR1 billion into the E-Class facelift, making this the most expensive revamp in the history of the automobile, but the competition, as well as other Mercedes models have come a long way.

We are now bringing you a set of close-up shots of the E-Class and there’s one conclusion that stands above all: the design will be sleeker than before.

Cooler styling on top of a new platform

While the E-Class will offer more appealing design details, we mustn’t forget that it still has to serve as the base for the third-generation CLS, so don’t expect it to turn into a four-door coupe. And like any model launched after the S-Class, the E will borrow the design direction of the flagship sedan.

Regardless, the mid-size sedan will be underpinned by the company’s all-new MRA (Modular Rear Architecture) platform. Yes, this is the same platform used by the new C-Class. There will be a slight increase in size, but the real difference will be made in terms of the wheelbase.

The elongation will bring some extra legroom in the rear, but this won’t be the only important cabin change. In fact, we expect the interior to bring the greatest transformation. It’s no secret that the current cabin is behind the overall level of the car - with the new one once again borrowing elements from the S-Class design, we expect nothing short of a lavish approach.

Under the hood

This is an area that will hold a massive list of novelties and the E-Class is expected to be the first Mercedes in many years to be powered by an inline-six engine. This will be part of a larger scheme that will see Merc follow BMW down the modular engine architecture pathway.

Thus, we could see the company come up with three-, four- and six-cylinder mills sharing many parts. The 3-pots probably won’t make it into the E-Class, but the rest will. For instance, we should get two version of a 3-liter inline-six, delivering 367 PS and 435 PS.

On the diesel front, the E will receive a 2.9-liter unit that will mark Mercedes’ switch to twin-turbocharging in this displacement class. The unit will offer 315 and 405 PS. A bouquet of plug-in hybrids and AMGs will complete the line-up.

The schedule

The E-Class will land in the form of the usual family, meaning the sedan will be followed by a station wagon, a coupe and a convertible. Nonetheless, while the current E-Class Coupe and E-Class Cabriolet are built on a stretched version of the now-old C-Class platform, the new ones will get what they deserve. Thus, expect an increase in terms of interior space. The models will start arriving in late 2015 or early 2016, being introduced as 2017 developments.

That grill under the camouflage seems quite large yet starts low down on the bumper and the lights seem curved a lot and sweep back to the fenders/bonnet line

Looks real dumpy in that pic, but fingers crossed. They can't botch this one. C and S are winners, E needs to join them.

I think the Autozeitung render might be pretty accurate but the soulder line goes way back, and the door handels are integrated in it, as I tried to show in this ps.
