If this is the next CL, or any RWD M-B for that matter, then the proportions are a massive fail. Looks like 90's RWD proportions.

I quite like this PS of the S-class, definitely a break from tradition if you ask me.

I`m starting to believe this is the CL now. It`s a complete change from the current one in terms of design philosphy. Remember the tapered C-Pillar and large almost sedan like 3/4 panel window. Those trade-marks are gone on this CL if this is really the case.
I believe what we have here are two CLs being tested. The coupe and convertible. If you look at the first photo up close you can clearly see the silver tape nothing but camo. Take that off and you can see a pure coupe profile.
The second car is the drop-top version. Both should debut around the same time.

Mercedes S-Class Coupé also a four-door?
How the new S-Class based two-door Coupé will be named is not yet clear. SLC might be possible as well as SLR, because the current Gullwing SLS might end almost simultaneously with the introduction of the new coupé. Based on the coupé also for the first time a four-seat S-Class Convertible will result. Not yet confirmed, however, is the large four-door S-Class Coupé.

Large engines up to 630 hp
The planned engines show that Mercedes wants to make its flagship even more exclusive: The drives range from the 4.6-liter V8 BiTu with 435 hp up to an AMG version with a 6.0-liter V12 engine and 630 hp. In the interior, Mercedes also plans to increase exclusivity: The S-Class Coupé features two large color monitors.

Lots of electronics on board
Also in the pipeline are a head-up display, which reflects important information onto the windshield, and the suspension adjustment "Magic Ride Control", in which a stereo camera scans the road condition. Translated from T-online.de

That is terrible. I really hope it looks nothing like that. Look at the current and the previous CL, and then look at that. Lines everywhere just for the sake of doing so, an ill-defined shape, and A-Class front end. Yuck. CL/S Coupe has to be gorgeous or nothing at all.

Good so it's confirmed that that car isn't an S-Class convertible but just an CL. Given the folding roof I would guess that the car has decreased in size a bit. That autobild chop looks too self-assured to be a guess.

Georg Kacher always seems to be pretty confident about the S-Class 4 door coupe. It seems it will come in 2015 or 2016.

So is this the current CL or a new gen CL?

Another Hyundai, Kia, Infiniti, new Maserati Quattroporte rear end...... I hope they're as far as possible to the acutal vehicle, as those render are awful

C'mon guys. I can't believe what I read here. The CL is magnificent from all points of view. It has a very beautiful design, it looks very luxurious, very classy, perhaps it has the best regal stance on the road, it just exudes passion, and all of that without needing AMG pack. The amg pack just makes the car more agressive. I think it has a timeless design, and it is just perfect. The interior, also looks wonderful and was the best at the moment he got introduced. Also, that car is really exclusive, and shows the pinnacle of MB technology. Just think about this fact, the "weakest" CL was "500" with 388 bhp. It has only V8 and V12 engines only with petrol. The CL is the supreme luxury coupe and that car rocks. I can say that if you don't like the CL then you don't like Mercedes-Benz.

I agree, I've totally changed my opinion about the C216. It's as Mercedes-Benz as it gets, and is truly perhaps one of the last timeless Benzes to come out. Everything flows, it's elegant, graceful, yet large and commanding. It's feminine in grace, yet masculine enough due to that same brutal size.

If M-B's space-proportional engineers didn't suck a$$ and gave it more than a horrid 36.9" frontal headroom (there are cars far sleeker and smaller cars with vastly more headroom by manufacturers who engineer cars with taller people in mind) then someone at my "average NBA Point Guard" height could fit in it, and I would have one RIGHT NOW!

Not just the tail lights...... The greenhouse too. But yeah, the lights in that chop appear to come straight off the previous Audi A6.

the side above the rear wheel arch looks too wide and i pray it wont have that cheap looking grille like on the E
