You never seem to grasp what is going on and then come in mid-conversation without knowing what is being discussed or what you're talking about.

M

No I have to admit we have this problem more often you and I.

Maby it`s your style... you tend to swing from one big extreme to another with rock like impacting force, without being aware of it.

Yea it's my style. I like extremes and the reactions to them, I can't deny this.
I can tell you, however, I am well aware of German car 101 and my info is up to date. My style makes me look ignorant sometimes, but that's the price I am more than happy to pay :) internetz, who gives a cr@p?

^
Well, I`m glad we came to an understanding... I really was not aware of your style of communication. (we learn something new everyday!)
I was about to use the term "AIR-bags" between words. If you use this technology it would soften your extreme style so that other members can focus more on the practical information you have to offer, instead of the extreme inpacts and head injury...:t-hihi:

I believe most everyone appreciates your German Car 101 Academics Klier. You offer a lot of value to the fourm! Try focusing on the more gentle side, so other members can respond in kind.

Respect..:t-cheers:

Now, back to the next generation C-Class.

Its a C-Class, clearly cost is an issue here. If they went all out with the C-Class Coupe then would would be the point of the E-Class coupe when its based on the same chassis? All this about it isn't developed with proper care and lack of engineering is sheer and utter nonsense K/A. What in the world about the car isn't "engineered" right? You're talking about styling, nothing more. No one here has any insight on the way the car was actually "engineered", only the way it was styled. Its a 30K car, not a 60K one. For the price of the old 300CE was back in 1988 (like 55-60K) it should have been done the way it was. The C-Class is entry level, you can't hold it to same standard as the E or CL coupe designs.

M

Okay, that may make sense. So my complaints should be focused on two other things: Why is M-B putting *2* Coupes based on the C Chassis, forcing them to make one look ghastly in the "Coupe section" (greenhouse), while the other one is a miss-badged Coupe that is not an actual Mid-Size, elegantly proportioned Coupe, instead a Compact, "C" sized Coupe with an E price tag. And, I clearly am becoming more and more miffed by M-B's focus to move downmarket (and the models with designs that have to clearly represent those lower price points). :D

Also, people have to remember that the problem ISN'T a B-Pillar, B-Pillar's are great on Coupes (I don't even like how M-B Coupe's look with all 4 windows down, kind of funny looking, but that's a personal thing), it's that HIDEOUS singular frame on the C Coupe that has historically been used on cheap, non-design oriented Coupes.

BMW's 3 and Audi's A5 are in a different league of "Coupe Design R&D/Individualization" from the C-Coupe. The C-Coupe is a Sedan with two doors, and you can see that in its non-elegantly Coupe proportions and greenhouse. The 3 and A5 Coupe's are completely different technical designs, that obviously share stark similarities with their 4-Door Brothers.

To me, the current C-Coupe is a bandaid until they develop a proper one with the right *Design R&D Time*. Of course it's selling like hotcakes, it's a Benz, C-Class, brand new theme, and 2-Doors (there is a segment for them) relatively budge priced. The thing could look like a phat a$$ with cottage cheese on wheels and it'd sell. :D

^ The Sportcoupé is the predecessor to the current C-Class Coupé I'd say. Probably still conceived under Bruno Sacco who retired in 1999, the Sportcoupé appeared around 2000 with the code CL203, and was based on the W203 C-Class. Positioned as entry level coupé it comes with B-Pillar and framed doors. Production stopped in 2011 after about 390,000 were built. Mostly sold with 4 bangers with compressor, and probably used as in town grocery getter for those who don't want to needlessly excercise the CLK/E/S/ML/GL/5er/7er in the garage? The rear hatch lends itself well to loading lots of cases of beer, according to some rumors. ;)

Mercedes entry level coupés
2000-2011 C-Class Sportcoupé "The Wedge" (based on W203 C-Class); AMG versions: C30 CDI AMG and C32 AMG
2011 C-Class Coupé (based on W204 C-Class); AMG version: C63 AMG
2015? C-Class Coupé (based on W205 C-Class); AMG version: probable

The new C-Class is going to have a good looking profile.
Less wedgy more classic cab-back...

So when will the new C (W205) be on sale in the US ? Summer of 2013 as MY2014 ? Remember , MB won't start to build the new C in N.A until the beginning of 2014.

Are you sure Merc1 ? Is it a bit late. The new 3er is going to eat their lunch.Thanks.
dtd

Yes that will be 7 model years 2008-2014 and they've already said that production will start in the U.S. in 2014. Normal 7 year time frame. Yeah the 3-Series is going to clean up, but the old one did that anyway so.... C-Class isn't ever going to beat the 3er as a sports sedan.

M

Does that mean the new C that I'm going to get will be made from America, not Germany right? Hopefully, they will have the diesel engine as an option this time.
dtd

You know Merc1, I like the interior of the FL C class, however, I think the new 3er engine ( 4cyl) beats out the C ( 4cyl) in term of power and fuel economy. So the next C , I think , should have a 2.0l turbo 4cyl instead of 1.8l . MB seems to master in diesel technology compare with BMW.Here in California, diesel is at the same price or about 5% more expensive than premium gasoline. Yes, there are some people ( but not much) are interested in diesel engine over here.

Profile looks fantastic. If they get the lines/details right, it'll smash the 3-Series in the looks department. If they don't, then anyone with sensitive eyes that long for some coherent graphics, will probably find the 3's conservative form more befitting.

More like for those who can't afford a proper Benz..... People who bought the sportcoupe weren't exactly in the market for an S class or GL...

Haha, based on one heavy cladded spy shot. You outdo yourself time and again! Bravo.

Nope, just that it's not such a feat, considering I think the W204 might be better looking than the new 3 (at least from up front).

They have their big chance, proportions look right, I'm sure the tech and all that other stuff will be in line, just don't muck it up with the heavy handed, non proportional details!
