Since China become the No.1 market of big German Luxury car,it's not surprise that German car maker will do something to meet the preference of Chinese customers.

If BMW keeps the comfortable drive of the G11, a decent, non-bling, exterior and a, let's say more conservative, non-screeny high quality interior, they could very well become leader in the segment. But, what's more important, a real tempting alternative by being different...

Edit: on a personal note. I just hate all-glossy black plastic.

Just for clarification: I didn’t even mean class leader. What I wanted to say is there will obviously be a blank spot in the segment which happens to match BMWs driver centricity USP. If all competitors go touchy Tesla-style, they should go with their HMI innovations. Also, they could further pursue their recent strategy of improving fit&finish, haptics, materials. Mercedes will still sell more cars but there would be a true alternative that is actually differentiable and does not deny its Munich origins.

The following is a Chinese report,Mercedes chief designer Mr. Wganer talked about the design of W223 and how the W223 will the meet the demands of Chinese and Asian market, this area is the biggest potential markets for Mercedes.Accoring to him,the average age of S-Class buyers in China is 37.

Watching the the latest episode of the grand tour and Jeremy Clarkson is reviewing the most expensive Chinese car the Hongqi L5 priced at $800,000 and it too has the mid mounted touch screen, guess this is where the luxury car market is heading.

EDIT: Since China is the S class' biggest market it could explain why Mercedes chose to go this directio...

There are also L7 and L9 models, guess those two should be more expensive. Maybe those 2 are not available for civilians so that makes L5 most expensive chinese car?

There are some pics of L7 from 2012-2013. and it looks like chinese were ahead of Mercedes :D

Those pics make it looks a little bit better. Better integrated to a degree.

If BMW goes in that direction, I wouldn’t be surprised that many S drivers would take the offer of BMW. The driver centricity would be a classic USP indeed. New usp will be the not trend following Tesla touch style. My guess is, many European S owners will embrace that strategy. And BMW could end up being class leader imo.

Plot twist: Remembering those air vents and looking tesla ish with the laptop navigation is it possible that they can test the S class while using the EQS interior and in the final months of the testing to actually show us the real interior of the S class ?

My God that interior.....

I don't know which screen I find worse, actually. Probably the central vertical one.

Denial phase 1.

That's not what's happening here.

The central screen may be production-spec, but I doubt the screen for the gauge cluster is the final spec. MB would downright stupid to do something that amateurish.

That said, I am not crazy about central screen concept either, but if MB wants to maintain relevancy among the tech folk and the younger crowd, this is the way to do it. Hopefully, it will be intuitive and looks better integrated than what we see now.

I mentioned in an earlier post about how they are going to integrated and enhance the MBUX experience. There were rumors with regards to the possibility of augmented reality and larger windshield projection/heads=up display. Any new news on that front?

Looks like the same design as the new A class with a random generic screen slapped in front of the driver?

And I completely forgot to share my thoughts on the exterior, how rude
I am holding my breath, it's got failure written all over it. W221-ish shape, horrible rear lights, and A class front. WTFFFFF.....

Some of you seem to see A-Class/CLS frontlights.

To me they look more like the new CLA frontlights.

The S class was the car to introduce the new phase of the MB design language, however these days, it is up to the A class and the CLA..which is completely wrong IMO.

Wrap around wood panel, stitched leather, and a clock.

After looking up interior pics of the Maybach concepts of the last 2-3 years, I am becoming convinced we'll something that's a combo of the Vision cabrio (central HVAC vents, wrap around theme, etc.) and the Vision ULC (wrap around theme) along with the large waterfall central screen and 2 digital round gauges as throwback to gauges seen on the W100. If my assumption is correct, it'll be quite the risk to go with something so retro-futuristic and, as I type this, it really makes me wonder how well it'll mesh with the exterior's design. If they do go about the interior that, risky or not, at least there will be a sense of occasion.
