2021 Mercedes S-Class Filmed in Detail, Blinks Its Headlights

The German automaker has a huge variety of models it has to develop before it can show anything, but there's probably going to be less variation than before. This particular prototype sports the longer wheelbase which will become standard and its grille hints at a normal equipment line, not an AMG or a hybrid.

Looking at the front, we immediately spot that the headlights are now narrower, sporting a design similar to the CLS. The three lines of LEDs over the top are gone, replaced by a single brow and small dots flanking the main projectors.

The big black boxes sticking out of all the doors are there to cover the new flush-fitting door handles, which we haven't seen on any other Mercedes model yet. Speaking of which, the interior is also unlike anything else out there, though we can confirm that this layout will also be found on the next C-Class.

Finally, the camo doesn't allow much to slip out at the back, though we do catch glimpses of long, taillights, kind of like those of the A-Class sedan.

Even though this is going to be a much longer car, the overall weight won't increase by much due to new materials for the chassis. Some of the engines that will power the 2021 S-Class are already coming out on other models, such as the hybrid V8 that's under the hood of the GLE 580. We believe that much of the AMG range will also have electric assistance, starting with an inline-six S 53 and ending with the flagship which is coming much later, the S73 with a Porsche-rivaling PHEV-V8. It's a strange name, we know, but there was an SL 73 AMG back in 2000.

So before or after the Paris Auto motor show in October 2020? Before or after the new C class?

As per previous reports I have seen the S-class will be shown before the C-class in May 2020.

someone said in this forum, don't know exactly who, the new s class will be presented the 1 April.
Concerning the C class, personally i would say by the end of next year, after Paris. That's always been like this in the past.

The W205 was first revealed in Dec 2013 and went on sale in about Apr/May 2014, which was about 6 and half to 7 years after the W204 was launched in 2007. So we could expect the same now for the W206 also. Paris 2020 looks like a good time for the first reveal.

i also think that the new s class will be presented in the first 6 months of next year and the new c class at the Paris Motor Show

Sorry Video just played.. S-Class look sleeker where as EQS look more beefy & sporty. But I feel S-Class is bigger in size than EQS

Why put camo on a car (EQS) that was already revealed. Just use the concept as a test mule. This camo thing is becoming overdone and a bit long in the tooth.

the new S class is supposed to be larger than the EQS according to recent rumours. It would be the size of the actual CLS. But it's true, the concept apparently is something like 5.30 meters long.....

The Real EQS I doubt will look anything near the Concept but maybe I am wrong.

I suspect that the production EQS will look vastly different. Carry-over from the IAA concept car will probably be limited to the rearend, in which vague similarities may be evident (more conventional taillamps on the production car however). And a similar signature "EQ" frontend should be in store as well. Unfortunately, the production EQS appears to sport an unsightly, heavily fragmented, flow-disruptive sideglass graphic. Quite the contrast versus the smooth, cohesive, minimalistic sideglass graphic of the concept car. And, of course, the production version of the EQS will be some 300mm shorter than the concept car, I reckon.

Looking at the EQS thing, the S-Class looks great in camo now. The EQS looks like it's an E-Class size vehicle. I hope it truly measure up to be the S_Class nameplate.

Remember that BEVs have better packaging. The EQS could be as roomy as the S but have a footprint that is closer to the E-Class.

It’s true, when I talked with one of the designers at IAA he mentioned the same, since EQS is BEV it has a better packaging resulting in S-Class kind of interior space with a compact exterior dimensions with a similar wheel base of S-Class but shorter overhangs.
