It's going to be a long two years. I'm excited by the surprisingly sleek profile. It also looks like the S will return to a more traditional curved instrument panel hood. Will be nice to see some variation from the current widescreen setup.

The can't get more than 2 years or so before they get clobbered again. It's quite funny. The new A8 will shine for 2 years and then be run off the road again. The Lexus LS what?

M
With such interior design there is no way A8 can shine even 1 day. Lexus is much more interesting)

BMW spie :p

Hang on guys is that a sports grill on a S-Class????

Where is Maybach 6 Concept influence in the W223??? I expected the next S to have a huge difference in stance and proportion as inspired from Maybach concept - slopping to rear kind of stance and longer hood and short boot proportion.

Or does it mean that Maybach version would be entirely different looking car than the regular S-Class??

:eek:Oh shiznat! Already? This is so unexpected! Here comes the hotstepper! I am so shocked, considering that we saw the first mules only so long ago. I was right when I claimed the final design for next S-Class was set in late 2016, as it takes about 1 year to go from full-scale design approval to testing stages like this (design freeze midway through that).

Please Wegener, don't f**k up this :D

;)Probably a little too late for that, considering it's been about a year since they made such commitments to the final design. Development of this (I was told) began in 2014, following W222 launch (staggered) in 2013-14. W222 started in late 2006 and W221 in autumn 1999 (design work from 2000). It's all in the minor details now (trim levels, lighting)

Exactly 8 years ago we saw the first photo of the w222 mule Spied! - Mercedes-Benz 2014 W222 S-Class (Spy pics & info)

and now the questiono_O
Is this car

a mule or a prototype?
P.S. very strange door handles

As history proves, this is a mule that will share nothing on the exterior with finished product. I still remember seeing the first shot of the W221 prototype in 2003. Incidentally a year after Autospies infamous leak of the finished W221 product way back in 2002 at a clinic. It still amazes me that happened.

Truth is these mules are more in line with the first real W222 mules we saw after the initial W221-like mules.

Prototype, I assume.

Some eye-catching, perhaps obscure, details:

A creased ledge under the side-glass window sills (not unsimilar to that of the new A-Class) that appears to lead to a sharply ascending, long and low hood with a consequently low, ground hugging grill (a bit like the Maybach Concept 6 cars). The massive plateau-like hood camo-cladding does not do the most convincing job of disguising this.
