many of the s-classes you see on the roads in the middle east are not what they seam, it is almost a tradition over there that as soon as you buy the car u change the badge, hence you'll see hundreds of s63's and s65's over there, when in fact its a v6 or v4 under the hood

In Germany they remove the S63 and S65 and the V8 and V12 Biturbo badges. There's even a no cost option called "Badge delete".

I believe in Germany AMG offered an option for the E class to look exactly the same as the regular taxi E class. Not just badge deletion, but bumpers, side skirts, rims... all to look like a typical E.

Yea,I remembered that too, quoted by ola in an interview from many many years ago, maybe back in our GCZ days..maybe wolfgang can confirm this.

Yes, this was offered for the previous generation E63. I saw a silver one in St Gallen, Switzerland early this year. Also, saw a current generation blue E63 with normal looking wheels with no badges except the side silver inverted tick (but without the V8 bi-turbo 4-Matic+ lettering) on the front fender.

There is no V4 in Merc in best of my knowledge. Secondly its not so common thing to rebadge in ME.

That might be the Business Line? :)

Stealthy Business Line Exterior Package to be Offered for Euro-Spec 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG

AMG’s new Business Line exterior treatment will take this 2014 E63 AMG and make it look more like a plebeian E350.

In America and Asia, car owners typically want to flaunt what they’ve got. It’s a bit of a different story in Europe: The public is sensitive to inequality, and it’s considered to be in poor taste to drive a vehicle that draws too much attention to itself. This explains the utter failure of traditional luxury cars on the Continent. (Sales of the BMW 7-series and the Mercedes S-class are a fraction of what they were decades ago.) It’s more acceptable to arrive in a mid-size sedan, preferably without range- or lineup-topping badging. Affluent car owners don’t just shun the luxury segment, they also prefer to keep their vehicle’s performance under wraps, too.

Sorry, do you mean 4 cylinder engine generally or are you alluding to a V4 from the architectural standpoint?
I am already thinking of the cost-benefit analysis with a V4 especially in an S-class and I can't seem to justify it.
Thanks.

Simple terminology mixup- that's actually an inline-4 (I4), not a V4.

as per my knowledge, inline-4 is a variant of the v4 engine as it has 2 variants : inline-4 and flat-4.
i think using both terminologies is correct in this case

Not at all. There is a genuine V4 type of engine, although it is not very popular with cars. The one, that I can remember now, is the ZAZ from tbe Soviet union.

Ford had a V4 engine in its older models in the 60's but it was short lived. I still find it hard to believe Mercedes would launch a 4-cylinder S-class W222. Maybe it could be for the Asian market where they heavily taxed on larger sized engines over 2ltr in capacity.

BMW made an E30 320is for the Italian market, because the M3 was heavily taxed for having an engine displacement above two litres.

The number 4 represents the number of cylinders, the letter represents the cylinder configuration.

I4, which make up the vast majority of automotive 4 cylinder engines. Cylinders are in a row:

V4 (notice the cylinder arrangement makes a V)

H4 (flat 4) if you were looking from above:

Indeed, Fords' V4. Originally developed for the "Code Cardinal" small (for U.S. standards) car back in the early 1960s'. It was introduced to mass-production with Fords' Taunus 12m in 1962.

Lancia was another manufacturer that developed and produced V4 engines.
