As if you can't understand that he is referring to the upper portion of the screen just below the vents.
So, we aren't allowed to have an opinion? And what are you doing, except being negative about people being negative. There is nothing more hypocritical than those who complain about others complaining.
Something we've known for many months already actually. So I don't know why he's referring to it only now...
This free standing design is much more modern. As are the central dials without a dash around it, which would make the interior much more 'heavy' looking. We're going to see lots more of this from all brands in future cars.
Even what seems familiar inside the 2021 S-Class is new. For example, the semiotic seat controls on the doors look like those we've seen in Benzes for years now, but the individual elements are touch-sensitive capacitor switches and no longer move. They feel odd at first—you're expecting movement—but once you're used to just touching rather than pushing or pulling, you won't want to go back to the old system, as you can make much finer adjustments to the seat than before.

I guess I have seen associated material during the contest phase. Since then, I've been to an 'adjacent' clinic and I heard about the winning proposal, mostly from students or blithering product managers. (Well, I understand them, they are really proud of their product, and cannot stop claiming that "this is so benchmark". In an actual conversation, it often sounds like shibboleth, still, there is some truth to it. They should just not say that about every single screw).
Yes, I like it based on my relatively sparse information. However, as many of you know, I do not like most current MB designs because I'm missing precision and original/non-generic elements, so my positive verdict might be misleading. On the other hand: I like the W222, even though I would have loved its interior to be less bling-bling, and more linear/more 'Scandinavian'. (The matte wood option of the FL version pushes that theme, imo. Check @Mick Briesgau's new daily to get an impression ...)
More precisely, I would say that the W223 refers a little more to its ancestors, and does not follow that Sensual Purity hullabaloo. It shows some clear lines and edges, two of them running from the front to the rear. Light units are more horizontal, as they have been in most S classes before. The interior (based on what I saw) is more 'furnituresque' and uses more solid and monolithic shapes than the more 'playful' (some critics even say brothel) approach in the W222. (Of course, Sinkwitz would vigorously object that statement... but, well, he's got his expertise/approach and I've got mine.)
What I mean is that the W140 [*edited] was practically the last 'serious' S class. The W220 wanted to look slim and anti-W140 [*]. And the W221 and W222 tried to correct that over-correction, in their own ways, respectively. The W223 will be an inventively designed S class of the serious kind that does not neglect its direct predecessor.
That actually isn't surprising to me at all. Back in the 2000s/early 2010s, Mercedes was reluctant to offer HUDs in the first place because much of their customer base found them distracting. Who knows where that discussion is in this forum, but a Mercedes executive was quoted talking about it.
I couldn’t give less of a fug when it comes to Huds. Overrated unnecessary gimmick. These ain’t no fighter jets.
That will only happen in fully autonomous cars. I'd love to know how you think the central dials will be displayed in the HUD without distracting the driver.Augmented reality + HUD is the future and in not too long even the central dials will disappear and become integrated into the HUD as a standard way to display the car's speed.
