EQS (V297) [Official] Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) is a battery electric full-size luxury liftback car produced by Mercedes-Benz Group and part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. Production: May 2021- Model years: 2022–
Determinedly moving forwards in terms of innovative technology. Flogging a dead horse in terms of exterior design. The MoPF has NOT made the already estranging EQS more appealing to the eye. Quite the opposite, actually.
Honestly if they put the bigger battery in the C EQ, it’ll sell like hotcakes.

The battery used in the EQS sedan would physically not fit. However, a battery of lesser physical dimensions suitable for MB.EA vehicles could certainly be developed to exceed the qualities of those presented in the battery of the EQS. Battery tech is moving rapidly in the direction of size/weight reduction while improving performance, reducing degradation and increasing efficiency.

the facelift somehow looks worse than its predecessor, like a bloated CLA. had they gone with the new s class style grill it would have been an improvement and truer to the original concept.

The original concept wasn't an actual egg though:

I believe Mercedes Benz are in a huge crisis with the exterior design of their vehicles. They need a total refresh and restart to a new design language. The current mix of some strange inharmonious designs between models will make them lose sales even more I believe. If Iconic is the new design language it needs to be launched very fast.

It does look good. And is testimony to Gorden Wagener's occasional flashes of brilliance. The Vision EQS Concept, the AMG Vision One Eleven, the Vision EQ XX and the Concept CLA are stellar design exercises in their own right. Alas, at M-B, either things get hopelessly lost in serial production translation or intriguing concept elements are simply not applied anywhere throughout the model lines. Beluga caviar being replaced by cheap, canned sardines.

Along with the point that you brought up, the more recent gloss over of unit sales data is arguably another symptom of this.
The loss of credibility as a company that this causes should not be underestimated.

One of the biggest investments of time and money in R&D is in that stage of going from concept to reality as faithfully as possible, and it's clear they aren't putting much effort into it. Mercedes is content to be a distant second-place finisher, and besides lacking the necessary motivation, they simply seem unable to aspire to become relevant again, much less number one. A change in leadership is the possible solution, but if their lazy work and poor performance continue like this, Ola won't get very far.

You right with this point, Gordon Wagener truly was a blinding light when he designed some of the Mercedes Concept cars, many of those cars were truly gorgeous cars with some innovative design details, but some of those that were destined for production got horribly diluted along the way and turned into ugly ducklings. Both Vision EQS and CLA looked fantastic but why are the production cars so ugly? Did the Mercedes Board think they were too daring and told the design team to tame things down for the production cars?

They better make the W224 to look exactly like the Vision Iconic & not dilute the design, that would baffle me.

They won't because the Vision Iconic is a coupe, and the W224 is a sedan.
They won't.

They will because of regulatory restraints and larger volume serial production issues, among other things.
They need to make a Coupe Version that’ll look like the Vision iconic then. I mean they did it with the C217 didn’t they? The C217 was really close to the concept.

So if they make a Coupe version that’ll look 95% like Vision Iconic & a Sedan Version that’ll look like that also, Share an EV Platform, Have a V8 too…It’ll be a definite WIN.

The C/A217's precursor Vision S-Coupe presented a far more "series production compatible" dimensional as well as proportional fundamental architectural exterior blueprint. It was in no way "caricaturesque". That cannot be said of the Vision Iconic. Hence, the Vision Iconic may, at most, present some distinctly isolated elements that could find their way into volume-produced future S-Class segment M-Bs.

i don’t think it hard really. W224 interior + Vision Iconic in Sedan/Coupe form?🧐

It is known that the Vision Iconic was not met with universal praise or enthusiasm. In fact, it was often lambasted by Europe-based professional design critics. Most common peeve: Pretentiously "neo-retro" and almost "arrogantly reactionary and a celebration of the archaic". Perhaps the Vision Iconic is indeed a design icon in the eyes of diehard, self-perceived "traditionalist" M-B brand aficionados.

I have no idea how it was received in North America or China by design professionals. But in the end, it does not matter. In essence, the Vision Iconic amounts to little more than a sort of circle jerk for an extremely limited audience.
