I dont think this new S-class is as controversial in styling like the E65 at launch, as this car shares styling cues with existing models so maybe it stands out rather as been conservative, although certain aspects of its design are not liked by all and are debatable.

I do think over time, people will get used to it and admire its looks. The interior is the big revolution for Mercedes, as it steps away from its luxury, conservative, ambiance designs aimed at the traditional more mature buyer and focuses more on a high tech, clean, button free environment design that possibly is trying to attract a wealthy, younger pool of buyers.

Lots of old guys yelling "get off my lawn" in here... big paradigm shift takes some time to reach a verdict on. Take it from an old guy..

It was genuinely "different" and hardly a "predictable" but rather an "unexpected" car fromBMW. And immensely polarizing.

I would say that applies to the interior of the W223. Your average Mercedes consumer was not expecting this at all.

I don’t want a BEV, looking looking like Sh!t. B...

M-B is certainly taking a gamble with the EQS in abandoning a more traditional, cabin-back, 3-Box architecture in the large luxury 4 door sedan segment. From what I have understood so far, BMW will take the more traditional (longish bonnet, cabin-back, short, notched bootlid) architectural route with its' upcoming i7.

The W222 was beautifully designed, as interiour, as outside. This car is really ugly and cold inside. The outside at the back is horrible, just a car for a accountant or a banker. The can’t sell this car to a more younger people (40 or a Little >). They Will lose now those customers to Porsche or BMW. Shame ..., shame, shame ... ☹️

2021 Mercedes S-Class Spy Shots Turned Into Realistic Renderings

This could be the most realistic render of the new S to date.
The last few days have been quite dramatic for the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class. First, we saw a completely naked pre-production model in low-resolution photos, followed by an official teaser released by the automaker. Just two days ago, we also got another look at the interior of the car via a spy video.

While the cat’s pretty much out of the bag, we are always open to seeing more of the new luxury king from Stuttgart. That’s why we are happy to share new renderings of the S-Class, based on its latest spy photos. The drawings come from the AtchaCars channel on YouTube and seem very plausible and realistic to us.

As we’ve already seen from the leaked images, the overall design at the front does not represent a major departure from the outgoing model, but there are at least a few tweaks that should help you differentiate the latest two generations of the sedan between each other. As seen in these renderings, the biggest change at the front is represented by the headlights, which have their own identity to separate the S-Class from the lesser models.

At the back, there will be more significant changes and by far the most obvious modification will be the shape and size of the taillights. The LED clusters will be very similar to what we’ve seen in the CLS and CLA, as well as the facelifted E-Class. It’s the same story with the lower section of the bumper, which also looks quite familiar.

It’s too early to give final conclusions about the design of the new S-Class but we can safely say we are very close to the point of full excitement about its debut. The culmination should come with the full premiere, which is expected to happen in the new few months. A luxed-up Maybach and an armored Guard are likely not far behind, while the two-door Coupe and Convertible are reportedly dead.

When I compare the cockpit of the W223 with that of previous S-Classes, I definitely see design accents that have existed before. In particular, the division and positioning of the dashboard parts of the W223 has some similarities to that of the W116 or W126.

Blue frame: relatively dominant instrument unit for the driver
Red frame: wood-clad area in front of the passenger. Without actual functionality.
Yellow frame: wide center console with most of the controls.

Apparently, the person who wrote that article, is not acquainted with the E-Class facelift.
